They are saying that the voucher part of the payment is non-refundable.
The other option is to go through my travel insurance as I have cover for cancelling trips to countries where the FCO advise against non-essential travel.
So, I put in an insurance claim and they rejected it on the basis that I knew of the pandemic when I used the voucher. I appealed as the FCO were still allowing travel when I made the second booking but they rejected that too. Tried going through my credit card company but they aren't interested either.
In the end the difference between the voucher value and my insurance excess is around £200 so it looks like I'm going to have to write it off.
I asked as i used an Ebookers hotel re-book voucher for a holiday this June.
The voucher had an expiry of 12 months with the new booking commencing within 12 months of the old booking.
I guess this is the same voucher you were issued with, that had to be used at the same hotel of the original booking?
I wonder what will happen if we're unable to travel for the new booking.... i'm hoping they will issue another voucher, as we would have been in catch-22.... 12 month expiry on the voucher, only to be used at the hotel we originally booked, that hasn't been open since the voucher was issued.0 -

Update from me,
With the Spain holiday still planned for end of June, I really think we will be unable to travel or at least the chances are really slim.
I went on the live chat with ebookers stating the only reason we booked the accommodation for the dates we did was to abide with the t&c's of the voucher issued when we were unable to travel due to covid last year. Thus would it be possible to cancel this years accommodation booking and be issued with another voucher, or just move the booking to 2022 with the same room, board, and dates?
They tried phoning the hotel to gain permission without reply, thus said they would email the hotel and email me when they get a response.
I'm hoping they can change the booking to 2022, and then i can get on and book something in the UK for this year before it all sells out.0 -
So ebookers have cancelled my booking, issued a refund for the cash part i paid, and refunded the voucher part..... but with the same July 2021 expiry date!
I'm on chat to them now, they are saying they are working with vendors to provide an extension, and that the original expiry date remains at this time. The chat concluded the same, have to wait to nearer the time to see if they will provide an extension for the voucher.

Further Update, and hopefully the last.
Went back on chat as coupon states 'Book by 22 Jul 2021', so enquired if i can book for a stay beyond that date, i,e for Summer 2022. And the reply was ..
'Yes, because they didn't mention that you can't book a reservation beyond the expiration date of the coupon'
So i'm happy to get that sorted, hotel prices will be published in May for June 2022 so will book then, as i can also transfer my Easyjet flights without fees at the same time.

With the Expedia voucher (which was previously due to expire 30 June 2021), it wouldnt show the voucher for dates after 1 July 2021 i.e. i couldnt have booked beyond the expiry date.

I've done various dummy runs with the voucher they refunded back in to my account, and it shows and can be applied to all future bookings, including different hotels.
I wouldn't want to risk using it at another hotel, but was interested to see if it was there to be applied, and it was.
The voucher does show a Book by, and not Travel by, so perhaps it's the Travel by that they've relaxed.
Forward to May, I hope i don't have any problems with the booking. I'll book the hotel first, wait a couple of weeks, before changing the flights over, just in case.0 -
It's all gone 'tits up' so to speak.
A couple of days back the date on the voucher changed, no longer showing as 'Book by 22nd July 2021', now showing as 'Travel by 1st Jan 2022'.
Been on the email and phone with Ebookers, they refuse to acknowledge the book before date that was previously shown, instead insisting they have extended the voucher to allow a stay until 1st Jan 2022.
So now find myself stuck with a hotel voucher to the value of £1,160 that has to be used at a particular spanish hotel, that must be used this year, that i cannot let anyone use as the booking has to be done through my account.
I either use it or lose it, and we can't see how we can use it this year.
Just wish there was a way to sell the coupon to someone for £500 and be done with it.0
