TUI holiday in August - amend or wait for TUI to cancel ?
Comments

We are also due to travel in August. I looked at amending the holiday but the cost to transfer to next year is rediculous. We're going to wait and see what they say closer to the time.0

Presumably you mean that the cost to amend is zero, but that the price of the same holiday has gone up a lot ? We found the same, but the 20% off (had we waited and had we got it) would have helped a bit. We did switch hotels as a hotel that was previously more expensive than ours was cheaper, so it may be worth checking that for your destination.Mazzle said:We are also due to travel in August. We're going to wait and see what they say closer to the time.We got our 20% but our departure date was 12th June so we were sure it would be cancelled (because of news coming out of Greece about which countries they'd allow in and when). We got the official cancellation email on 29th May and rebooked for 2021 on 1st June.I guess it's a harder decision when your departure date is later and your tour operator says your holiday is still going ahead but you don't know what your resort will look like when (if) you arrive and it's possible that travel restrictions will be put back in place if we have a second wave after restrictions have been lifted.0 -
I guess what is also hard for us is apart from having to pay for seats and luggage again on top of already paying it for it, the Villa have said they will not be opening up it's resort till Aug after it's reviewed and put in place their social distance and plans to keep visitors safe. So Tui have said well as it stands we can still fly you on the 18 July as nothing has been said they can't. So we have had to transfer the Villa to 2021 and hope the flights get cancelled or wait as long as possible in June and pay more for the flights to be transferred to 2021 and pay for everything we have already paid for again. Other wise we are flying to Florida for 2 weeks next month with no accomodation.Pollycat said:JUser said:

We had a holiday booked to Italy for 5th August although when I asked to change to next year was told I can't as flights in package were with Easyjet and they haven't released flights for next August. We booked through John Lewis holidays.0

Sorry, yes exactly. The holiday itself is much more expensive next year.JUser said:

I have looked at the link you were kind enough to give me.Life__Goes__On said:

Due to fly package holiday to Menorca 1st July 2020.
I am told it is to go ahead and I am so scared of catching the virus and not having insurance that covers it.
Surely 1st July will not be safe to travel.
Then you won't be going on 1st July.
I can't seem to find anything that convinces me that the holiday will not go ahead. Would you be good enough to direct me to the bit that makes you believe the holiday will not go ahead.
I have looked at so many things, things that don't seem clear, I think I am losing it!Keep on trucking!0 -
I think I believed the BBC headline "No early return for UK tourists, says Spain" as the start date is 1st July the headline would mean at some point after that.Cacran said:

But re-reading it Spain hasn't said what the BBC claim, my fault, I should have known these days it;s just another rag that puts its own spin on things.
EDIT
There is another reason you aren't likely to go is if the FCO advice remains the same

Be aware, you can only amend until the end of June for holidays booked up until the end of August. We are due to fly to Mexico at the end of August. Cost a fair bit but ain’t paying loads more to move to next year so if they say we can go, we are off.misterbarlow said:We are also booked and paid with Tui for 15th august to Majorca..
If the FCO lift the no fly and this 14 day nonsense is done away with, we are happy to go..
Tui are now allowing amendments for hols up til end of Aug, so we are going to wait it out until end of July ish, see what state the world is in by then, and then make a decision on amending for next year, or going!!0 -
Same here although Mexico is looking more and more dodgy with the rising number of casesclt1979 said:

. I had thought about moving the booking to another destination but you can only rebook for a date in the future, not the same time period which is annoying. 0
