Hey lovelies, I’ve got an accountant to do my tax return, she’s really good and doing it all in favour of us (hopefully) buying a house at the end of the year. I’m going to pop some stuff on eBay tonight. And I am advertising on FB for 1-2-1 coaching. I am absolutely going to have to take the money out of the house deposit, I don’t have any money anywhere else and am barely getting paid at the moment. Going to have to see how much I can scrimp and save and sort.

Ok so been productive so far.
I be done 2 loads of washing and hung them up. I’ve sorted the dry washing (yet to put away though!) ive done the cats litter tray and I’ve just cut up all the wrinkly veg from the fridge and put it in the slow cooker with some chicken for a chicken stew for later.

so far this week I’ve managed to not waste any food! Which is quite a big deal in the sense that I’m always forgetting about meat in the fridge. But I froze some mince before it went OOD and I bought frozen sliced chicken. Which has worked wonders. I’ve always got some in and it doesn’t take too much longer than normal to cook, so I’m very happy with that. So we’ll have stew tonight and tomorrow. Might even make some bread and some banana bread to go with it!

Ahhh I’ve just had 2 potential leads for work not turn In to anything. Which is very frustrating especially as I’ve spend about £75 on advertising. I just feel like I’m fighting a losing battle. I’m wondering whether I should get a job at the hospital giving vaccinations. But I’d still need to fit all of my other work around it, and putting myself, and therefore my children, at risk from infection from other people. I’m a bit stuck and not in a great mood. I just don’t know how we’re ever going to afford to buy a house, and I’m nearly 40 😢.

Take heart @missymoo81 I was nearly 40 and DH was 40 when we bought our first house!  It's not easy is it?  We actually had an interest only mortgage and started making payments to the endowment before we'd actually bought a house as DH was going to be 40 and back then they didn't allow mortgages longer than 25 years, so that it was in place to pay off the mortgage at the end of 25 years when we found a house!  We actually bought a house a couple of months later.

Aw Missy thats frustrating about the advertising, from what I have learned from social media you need to post regularily so don't be dishartened and keep trying. Just an idea but would it be worth seeing if you could find someone locally who could help with your social media advertising in exchange for some personal training so to keep costs low and drum up a bit of business.

Honestly you must put the nearly 40 to one side. Just turned 40 myself and honestly its not that bad & you'll get there. Your just having a rough time of it at the moment for a good reason and try to keep that in your mind.

The jabs work at hospital could be a good short term idea but I can understand your concerns why you wouldn't do it either. My driving instructor has taken some extra shifts at a pharmacy for the same reason.

You'll get the house, you can still get mortgages for later in life as well, so retirement doesn't have to be an absolute deadline.  I know plenty of people who bought their first home well into their 40s.

Your income situation is tough at the moment, but it won't be the same forever.  Hopefully later this year things will be on a much more even keel.

Is there anything else you can do in the meantime?  Didn't you do a lot of baking previously?  Any scope for lockdown treats?

Things are hard right now but they will get better. Are they recruiting any contact tracers near you? They are constantly recruiting here and they are flexible on hours, so they're even looking for people who can only do a few hours here and there. Plus, you can do it from home if you have a computer/laptop.

Gosh I’m really touched by all your kind words and advice! I’m really struggling at the moment. I’m not one to struggle with my mental health but have felt really down since this third lockdown has kicked in. But I think because it’s combined with the bad weather, huge tax bill and the massive amounts of homeschooling I have to do. I just feel all Over the place.
Thanks @joedenise I know 40 isn’t old to get a house as such I just really want to get a house so we’re not frittering away huge amounts of money on rent. But you’re right it’s not easy, especially being self employed in this uncertain time.
And thanks for thinking about social media etc @Queen_of_the_Hive OH is a whizz at it and teaches seminars on it. So I know I’m doing everything right. It’s just a flooded market right now. But all I can do is keep putting content out there and keep trying. If anyone here knows of anyone that would be interested in training at home via zoom then just send me a PM. Appreciate it’s not for everyone. But thought I’d ask. Hope that’s ok.

@jwil you’re right of course we can get mortgages and later life ones are there. It’s just hard enough as it is with OH being older than me too and both of us being self employed. You’re right, I forgot how long you’ve followed me, it’s so lovely to still have you around. I did used to bake. I couldnt bake birthday cakes etc anymore for people as just haven’t got the time or space but should def bake more for everyone at home. 1 it’s cheaper than the shop bought treats and 2 i do find it really therapeutic e when I have the time.

@WelshKitty85 thank you for posting such positivity, and I’m going to have a little look on the NHS website now and see what comes up.

Positives from today. I’ve been quite productive, and have even emailed a potential client so keep your fingers crossed for me. I’ve actually made a start on lengthening some of Mays clothes which have been waiting for about 4 months!  I didn’t buy stupid amounts of supplements or diet plans today eventhough they were in my basket and I want to spend to feel better by absolutely can’t. So I had a very long hard talk with myself and I won’t be window shopping or doing any sort of shopping online for quite some time. Oh and I made some rolls to have with our stew instead of going to the shop and spending £1 on crusty rolls. They haven’t risen too well, but they’re ok. And I didn’t stop at the shop to get a bottle of wine either. So feeling good about that.

Me and OH are going to sit and watch a film later and just relax and I’m very much looking forward to it.

Sounds like a very productive day. Well done.

FYI it's our local council I've seen advertise for contact tracers, rather than NHS - although they may well advertise too so worth checking both.
