  • Hope this year picks up for you and you manage to put yourself and the children first. You shouldn't have to tiptoe around anyone else in your own home and feel uncomfortable about being in a room. Sometimes these things just gradually happen without you realising it but now that you have, you should make sure that you or your kids don't ever have to feel like that. I hope things improve for you soon.

Hey lovely lovely people. Happy New Year!!!!
Thanks for all of your lovely well wishes and advice. OH is just under so much stress at the moment and I honestly think he’s got bipolar and suffers with bouts of depression. He has good days and bad but mostly good it’s just been extra hard this lockdown and people haven’t particularly kind but I guess that’s what happens when you work with the general public.

jist been for a walk and we’re going to have sausages and burgers and light the fire pit, just for something different to do! Very much looking forward to it.

so I have some jobs to get done today.

    Wash sheets
    hang washing
    Remake bed
    hoover stairs.

Have already put one wash load on and emptied the fridge and the bin.
Going to write a separate post in a minute with all organisation goals for 2021.

Do you meal plan?  It will certainly make it easier for you if you do.  By planning your can make it easier for yourself on the days when you have to work in the evenings and work out when would be easiest to have the planned evening meals together.

If you have a slow cooker you could batch cook meals and then freeze in either individual portions or family sized portions to help make the busy days easier.

There's only the 2 of us but I started batch cooking years ago when the children were still at home and just find it makes life so much easier as I can plan around what is going on in our day to day life - not that it makes much difference at the moment as every day is pretty much the same unless shopping needs to be done!  Seems to be about the only time we really get out although we're trying to get out for a walk a few times a week.

Good luck with keeping up with your goals.

Thanks so much JoeDenise, I have been toying with the idea of batch cooking on a Sunday to help. And I have dusted off my slow cooker for things like stew and making double portions. I always make double portions of chilli, stew and spaghetti. But you’re right I need to think more about days that I’m working late. At the moment days are a lot easier but we do have more early mornings as opposed to late nights. As I’m writing this I realise I have at least 2 late nights so need to plan accordingly.

I keep thinking of things I need to add to my goals. I’m trying to be realistic about things.

Do you know what you have in your freezer that you can put into your plan so that the main part of the meal just needs heating up and then only need potatoes, rice, spaghetti to go with it.

Also things like beans & pulses make good, cheap meals.  I don't know how your family feel about veggie meals but they're OK with them it's worth checking out websites like www.cookingonabootstrap.com and www.thriftylesley.com , both of which have a range of cheap meals, although I think the portions are a bit on the stingy side for a lot of the recipes!
