  • I have a question about Mystery Shopping and specifically Retail Eyes.

I have just joined them and see they have released alot of assignments within the past day. Am I allowed to do the same assignment more than once but at different branches For instance there are two shops close to me - can I visit them both in the same day?

I've looked through their FAQ but it doesn't answer the question.

Sometimes you can, sometimes you can't.

What you'll find is, if you accept one assignment, the others will all vanish from view if you're only allowed to do one. If you can do another, it will still be there.

When you start with RE you can only do one job. Once that one is done and approved you can select more jobs. Different shops have different rules about how many you can select, and this seems to vary from wave to wave of jobs. If you've reached the limit of how many you can select then they just disappear from your jobs page.

    HTH :)
  • Oh right that makes sense. Thanks for your help guys.

If you have to spend £10, you wouldn't have been paid without spending that, at a guess. The problem is that you're not really spending £10 if you can use the things you bought so telling the tax man you didn't make a profit when you've got 30,000 toilet rolls in your cupboard is a bit dangerous.

All I'm saying is that the maximum I would go to in terms of expenses is the amount they ask you to spend and anything else I pay for. I'm happy to argue it with HMRC though, it wouldn't be logical to not spend anything as you wouldn't get paid!

I've looked high and low (and even had a tax expert friend of mine do it!) for tax papers on MSing but AFAICS they just don't exist, so we have to think logically and work by reasonable standards!

I've just realised that I'm better off purchasing and not returning an item then, as if I return it I can't claim the purchase allowance.........or I don't think I can

Timmne, could you confirm I've got that right. Thanks so much :)

Well here goes....after a couple of glasses or red wine...coupled with being rather bored....I am going to file my tax return. I'm hoping that the wine makes the experience less painful....but most probably inaccurate also...nevermind!!!!!

Well you know the saying. You can take the girl out of Glasgow...but you can't take Glasgow out of the girl. It was hilarious though the poor guy was sweating and mopping his brow. And I forgot he threw in a free car charger.

I did a similar thing once buying my car. I wanted metallic paint but it was a lot extra, and a CD player but that was extra too. So I know car showrooms put their sales figures in at the end of the month so I went in the last day. Bloke had almost signed me up and I go ....in a female sort of way. "Nah I shan't bother" So he says what's wrong so I said I would have taken it if it had metallic paint as I don't like the colour. So he throws in metallic paint FREE. I am now sitting with the pen to sign and said "Nah I'm not sure." He says again "What's wrong" So I said I don't like cassette players and really wanted a CD player. He throws that in as well. Then I just gave him a sweet look and said where is it I sign.:rotfl:

I'm not sure I understand you anyway! :o

If you're paid £5 fee and £5 reimbursement for a supermarket job and you have to spend at least £5, I would say that my profit was £5 because my reasoning is that I wouldn't have made anything if I hadn't spent the money.

The tax man (on the face of it) would say that you made £10 profit as the goods were taken for private use - there is even a box for this on the self employment pages on the tax return!

Like I said before, pick a logical method for you and stick to it. As long as you're comfortable that you're not fleecing the tax man and you could explain it under an investigation, you're fine.

If you want to be ultra cautious (and aligned with the tax man's view!) you should claim in the above example that you made £10 profit.

Hollypear, you're obviously a natural! I did a MS for a range of car shops a while back, and they actually gave us training in how to negotiate the best price possible - which was remarkably like your technique! :D DH couldn't believe the prices I was coming home with!!! :rotfl:
