They are not the sleazy style places of the past! I haven't been in one for about a year, but they are cosy, clean and friendly. I only do the odd basic bet and the staff are always helpful as I am a bit clueless. I think you would be ok, good idea to visit first and see. I haven't done one as an assignment yet as I read the brief and thought I would get a bit of experience first. There seemed to be quite a bit to remember, but I think once you have done one, it will be easier.
    p.s I am a woman.;)

I agree - they are a lot better now and like quite a few of the jobs once you've done the first one it gets easier. I did my first one on Grand National Day last year, which was q a good time to start as it's the one time when lots of people, men and women go in. They've simplified the form now, if we're talking about Gap, so there's less to check.

I usually put on a football bet - even did 3 over a couple of days, so bet on a win, draw and to lose - guess what? One of them came up (of course:p ) and you get to keep the winnings, so that's an added bonus and it was even the longest odds one, so I won £13.80 for my £3 stake, which you get to keep! (no wonder they go quickly!)

Plus, they have a pre-printed form for footy, so you can just tick which game and option you want and select £3 a bit like a lottery slip, so it's quite straightforward - go for it girls!!

Apparently there are bookies on RE, (a blue logo firm) but they only allow men to mystery shop for them  Is that discrimination?!?
  • Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help - I'm registered with TNS but have never received contact details for my area manager.

I've just been accepted for a job tonight in Milton Keynes, but I haven't received the job details email and I'm worried it won't come through in time.

Does anyone have contact details for an area manager (any area manager will do, I'm sure if they're not the right one, they can put me in touch with the one I need)?

If so, could you please email details to me: joanna_willett@hotmail.com

    Thanks!

    Jo

  • Does anyone know which company does mystery shopping for:

Marks & spencer, The body shop & Debenhams?

    Thanks

All I can say one of them is not shopped at all, the other two are done by 2 different companies.

Mystery shoppers are not allowed to disclose the names of the companies and their clients.

    Hi,

I signed up with TNS a week or 2 ago and have been waiting for some localish jobs to come up on the search- so far there's been none (between now and April!) within a 40 minute drive from me.

I got an email tonight saying there were three urgent jobs- all over an hour away! They were all quite small (2 cafes and one chemist).

Am I being too picky? From what I read on here, I thought the jobs would fit in around normal day to day life- not usually needing a huge journey? I'm not living in the sticks here- 10 mins from a large town, about 20 mins from Manchester!

    Thanks for any tips!

TNS don't offer any incentives for picking up urgent jobs, so it's up to you to decide if a small job, miles away, is cost effective for you.

Look at the fee, the travelling expenses & the reimbursement for any purchases, then work out how much it will cost you in time & petrol/travel/parking expenses to do the job.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with being picky - I turn down far more work than I actually accept.

Some jobs don't pay a fee but the 'perk' of the job may be worth it in return for the report you have to submit - eg a no fee hotel visit for 2 with meals, room service, spa treatment etc is, to my mind, worth doing. A 1 night/1 person midweek hotel visit with the room paid for & a contribution towards a meal certainly isn't.

It's also worth noting that TNS often email their entire database with urgent jobs, ignoring it & not accepting a job certainly won't go against you.
