Will the school be re-opening in June as well?
Are you working? As your partner works only 8 hours per week, is it possible that you could schedule your work days so there is always one of you to look after your son?1 -
OK thanks for the replies.
The bottom line is we have a child who's at home until the schools go back and my Partner won't be working until they do.
If she has to take it unpaid until the schools go back then that's all we can do whether it's some time in June or not until September.
We have NO choice that's why I asked.0 -
You keep talking about your partner but haven't said what your situation is in all this? Are you working, furloughed or for any other reason at home.Matt_73 said:OK thanks for the replies.

If she just refuses to go back, there may not be a job to go back to. What is the Matalan policy on unpaid leave?Matt_73 said:The bottom line is we have a child who's at home until the schools go back and my Partner won't be working until they do.0 -
Not sure when our son will return to school as he's second year of infants and they plan to get reception, year one infants and the last year of juniors back first.Grumpy_chap said:Will the school be re-opening in June as well?

We will have a go at rescheduling myself but its going to be really difficult. We are also looking after two sets of elderly Parents with shopping etc.
There must be so, so many people in our situation BUT this is an 8hr a week job with no perks so it could be worse I suppose. 👍

Again, you seem to be skipping the question. What is your circumstances in all this, are you working or at home too?Matt_73 said:

Can I ask why its the employers decision when the government are paying the 80% not my Partners employer.
As the scheme was to protect jobs, the government has no idea at what point the job has been saved or not. Which when your partner is recalled hers has been.

Have any of the four (grand)parents been recommended to 'shield' because they are 'clinically highly vulnerable'? If so they are eligible for grocery home delivery from any of the major supermarkets. An alternative is 'Click & Collect': where I am ASDA slots are easy to get, have been for several weeks even whilst there were long queues outside the store!Matt_73 said:Not sure when our son will return to school as he's second year of infants and they plan to get reception, year one infants and the last year of juniors back first.

If travelling to pick up and drop off a 'Click & Collect' order is the most time consuming or awkward aspect (two buses each way, say), your parents' local council may be able to offer assistance, or search Facebook/ other social media for "caremongering" and the area.
There is an article on groceries and the very vulnerable on the main MSE site. Some applies to people 'shielding' with no support from family or friends, so skim past those sections.

In one of his many interviews, Boris suggested that people in your partner's situation would be eligible to be furloughed. It is still upto the company to agree. If they need all hands on deck, then they may not be furloughing anyone.
Furloughing costs the employer, holiday pay and a cash flow due to the delay in being reimbursed from when they pay out. Plus the inconvenience of having staff not working that they may need. Also the impact on working staff to carry the load and resentment that some staff are getting 80% salary while they are working for only 20% more.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
