After years of debt journey through my sensible 40s... and save a deposit for a house

Struggling today, woke up last night multiple times not feeling well. Parents fighting and not speaking for over 3 weeks now. On a plus no unnecessary spending and it’s payday again next Friday. I will be over 4 k next month with the deposit savings and therefore over Over target to reach my 8k by the end of this year. Can’t wait to get that 8k done and move on next years ready to move on to fees savings.0

Had a lovely day today, really lifted my spirits. Took mum out to a town a few miles away, went for a walk round the marina and saw some seals. Then we drove round some of the areas I want to buy in and looked at houses. Def motivated me again and nice to get the Mothership’s seal of approval.1

Update to mortgage savings, now at £4181 with payday on Friday £ 535 will automatically move over so will total £4716. So I am ahead for my 8k target for this year. Have also changed one of my Halifax pots to a fees etc pot and changed my save the change to go into it. May as well start it now and let it crawl along. I no I’ll be less motivated to save for these so going to try and build it up with change etc so I don’t notice it. Can’t wait to hopefully be in my house in 2022 and sit back and read this diary, see how the savings progressed and how it was all worth it. 58.9 % of my mortgage savings target for this year achieved by June, proud of myself. Can’t wait to see wait I can achieve over the next 6 months and where things stand at the end of the year.0

Got the Coventry Reg Saving up and going, using this to save for fees and will transfer save the change amounts over from the Halifax. Another step completed. One thing I’ve learnt this year is that whilst I love the Halifax account for having slots of pots for sinking funds I don’t like holding actual savings in them. Needs to be out of sight out of mind for me.0

Have given myself a £30 budget for food shopping this week, trying to save some out of the grocery budget this month so I can meet up with a friend next month for lunch and drinks without compromising next months savings. The things you have to do....0

You are doing so well, if you could bottle your motivation I would buy some (even though I shouldn’t be spending 😂)Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien
