  • I'm afraid it ain't gonna happen, we were all given ample time to update our email addresses, the fact that you weren't in a position to do that isn't mse's fault, I suspect that this happened to a lot of old mse users who have either come back with new names or not bothered and just stayed away.

I'm not blaming MSE for the fact I couldn't access the forum. However it feels like a heavy handed approach to just say "computer says no".

I've emailed again and have my fingers crossed.

Or did come back and now wish that they had just stayed away .....

I'm sorry you've lost your original account. I have been trying not to sound harsh but I'm afraid I agree with venison in that there are many, many posters who have lost their old accounts.

Maybe under "normal" circumstances the forum team may have been able to help in exceptional circumstances but at the moment I know they are totally overwhelmed with Covid problems (they are, after all, closing boards down to ease the burden) and they just won't have the time to deal with things like this.

If ever we return to normal then maybe they could help but I know other posters have been told there's nothing that can be done.

All I can suggest is that you look through old threads that you posted on and see if you can recognise this poster from there.

    Good Luck!

I can provide details such as what was discussed in those private messages...
Do they have access to the PMs to read them?
If they do, wouldn't they need your permission to read them by making you email them an authorisation from...drumroll...the email address they have on record.
    Bit of a catch22 there!.

That's the world were living in. The one we wanted - where a company puts a foot wrong with our data they're fined multiple millions of pounds. The world where I can't access half the american news sites because they're so scared of GDPR they've just blocked all european access.

WE wanted it so that if a company lets someone else get at our data fire and brimstone gets rained on them.

  • I understand your point. I do. I am trying to provide ample evidence. No reply.
I'm still struggling to make contact.

  • For data protection reasons we can only help users who have emailed using the address they have registered on their account (otherwise we can’t be certain it’s you).

Ample enough evidence to satisfy data protection laws and make sure the site doesn't get in serious trouble? What kind of evidence could do that? As I said, you're trying to get them to sift through someones PMs. If you're lying and then when things don't match up you say "Haha. gotya", they're left with the fact they've read someones PMs without permission and probably have to go report themselves for punishment.

Give them time to email you back, The forum team are extremely busy at present with various things, especially the ever changing current situation.
It won't be a quick fix, I am afraid.

I received an email back from the forum team this morning rather than just an automated response regarding my own request, so they are dealing with things but each team member has only one pair of hands so to speak, and I believe that they are quite a small team in comparison to the number of users.
