Oh ok... then you would definitely benefit from switching to Octopus! (Go find a referral code online btw!)
Your day rate and night rate would be on the E7 tariff, and your control rate would be on the single rate tariff.
If you put your postcode in https://octopus.energy/tariffs/, you can check what unit rate you would be charged at.
For your MPAN numbers, do you have one start with S02 and another that start with S01?

Feels like I am slowly becoming a DTS expert...
    Both MPAN's start with S02
  • @m-holland It looks like you're on the same kind of meter as me! I've PM'ed you some contact details at octopus, to get in touch if you're wanting to try and switch. I assume you're in the south of scotland?

I believe that Alecjw is only paying 1 standing charge on 2 MPAN and a Scottish charity has also had a result in getting customers who have been charged 2 daily charges refunds. see link

Interestingly, when I was establishing the switch to Octopus, they insisted to charge a standing charge on each MPAN, which isn't much of a problem for me as it still works out a lot cheaper...
Perhaps @[Deleted User] could clarify further

Unless they're putting you on a single-rate tariff, I think they're entitled to charge two MPANs. In my case they didn't though.
I think this is to do with the chain of events of my switch:
    1. I went in assuming I'd only be eligible for a single rate tariff, so asked them to do that for me
    2. They told me they'd charge me a standing charge for each MPAN, to which I pulled up the restricted meters order 2016. They agreed to charge me only a single standing charge since this is required if I'm requesting a single rate tariff.
    3. They then offered me a two-rate tariff. This meant they could have changed their mind about only charging me a single standing charge, but they didn't!

I think you can consider yourself a very lucky person then! I have to pay 2 standing charges for the 2-rate tariff so it would be an extra 17p/day.

After contacting Octopus to switch from my SSE THTC tariff, I was told that they could not offer me Day rate on standard meter and night rate on THTC meter. The service reps do not understand the THTC meter setup where all usage is at cheaper rate. I tried putting it all down in an email to their Issue Resolution email address and the came back to me yesterday confirming that they cannot offer me a tariff. So stuck with renewing with OVO (SSE) on a more expensive tariff, increase of approx £164 over the year. I could go through the hassle of changing to single rate meter, however my usage is 20/80 and savings in my neck of the woods is minimal.

That sucks! Legally they're required to offer you at least a single rate tariff though so if that's any good to you, you should push that! Take it to the ombudsman if you need to. But you're right that there might not be any benefit if most of your use is currently on an off-peak rate...

Update, my fixed rate ends 19/7 and I called SSE 22/6 and received THTC tariff rates which meant my monthly bill increases by £16, this is why I started the conversations with Octopus. I called SSE yesterday after getting nowhere with Octopus and was quoted different rates which would mean an increase of £36 per month. Luckily I called back in June and remembered being told the tariff would be available until my renewal date. after some digging the lady told me the tariff I had been offered had been on sale and had been withdrawn, however they would honour it.  Crazy how they can increase prices in this way.
  • Ugh that's sneaky of them. Unfortunately it sounds like you don't have many options. Getting oil fired heating would be ideal, but I think you said in another thread that that isn't possible for you. I guess it's just the price you pay for being so lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the country!

I have 2 meters and I'm on the comfort plus tariff, with electric storage heaters.   Having gas central heating installed at the beginning of October so contacted Scottish Power about removing the 2 meters and replacing with one single rate meter but they are unable to do that due to government guidelines.  Is there any way round this or will i just need to submit regular meter readings to show that the heating meter isn't being used?  I want to change supplier as soon as possible so having to wait till they can sort it is not ideal
