I dont know if any of this helps as well - https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/58513f75ed915d0aeb00009e/energy-market-restricted-meters-order-explanatory-note.pdf although it's not a legal condition but tries to explain the background (para 30 seems to cover the situation) you can also refer to the Standard Licencing Conditions, section 22G.
In general it appears that if you go onto a single rate tariff they should not charge you for two MPANs, however it's not so clear if you decide to opt for an E7 tariff (whoever put this stuff together don't really seem to think it right through to see what the unintended consequences might be)

That just sums up the incompetent Ofgem ! The classic example is their daft definition of a 'saving' whereby you are told that you'll save a fortune by switching to a more expensive tariff.matelodave said:whoever put this stuff together don't really seem to think it right through to see what the unintended consequences might be

I have indeed taken an E7 tariff as my night use is around 85% due to my heating and water both on leccy.matelodave said:In general it appears that if you go onto a single rate tariff they should not charge you for two MPANs, however it's not so clear if you decide to opt for an E7 tariff (whoever put this stuff together don't really seem to think it right through to see what the unintended consequences might be)
I guess someone should raise that to Ofgem regarding standing charge for people with complex meters being on E7 tariffs. There seems to be no clarification on the situation you mentioned.0 -
I'm guessing that if you are on a basic E7 then you could have the wiring sorted out and get yourself a single meter. The cost saving would probably offset the cost of getting an electrician in and then you could go with whomever you want afterwards.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

Any more info on Octopus supporting dual MPAN's? I'm looking to switch away from SP as they are the most useless company in existence, but my only other options seems to be SSE0

Depending on what sort of meter you have. If your heating is on a separate MPAN with a separate register then it might work out to be more expensive as they can only charge those on the single-rate tariff (around 13-14p/kWh), but if it is combined with general use like mine (Economy 9) than you could go onto their Economy 7 tariff.m-holland said:Any more info on Octopus supporting dual MPAN's? hmm, I believe its a seperate MPAN as two show on my bill, but may still be cheaper as SP currently charge me 16.6p a unithozza94 said:

If you could take a snapshot of your bill then I could guess what Octopus could offer you.

Also that is some horrendous unit rate if that is your heating!
What other unit rates have you got?0 -

Oh ok... then you would definitely benefit from switching to Octopus! (Go find a referral code online btw!)
Your day rate and night rate would be on the E7 tariff, and your control rate would be on the single rate tariff.
If you put your postcode in https://octopus.energy/tariffs/, you can check what unit rate you would be charged at.
For your MPAN numbers, do you have one start with S02 and another that start with S01?
