Its unlikely that proof of purchase isn't required otherwise there's nothing to stop people registering online once their 1 year retail warranty has run out.

Good question Sammy I was thinking the same, I was lucky enough to get a wii at Argos the other week. Is the nunchuck just used for certain games?
