  • Deffo a scam, why else would it appear near the top of the search results and say 'pay vehicle tax online' and have a similar look as the gov website. Not everyone is savvy on a computer...

Because they pay to be at spot one on search engines because some people think it's DVLA, even though there are enough clues to point towards it NOT being DVLA, and it's extremely profitable for them.

Once these people educate themselves then their popularity will slide and they will less likely make enough profit to pay for the top spot.

The only way to stop these scam websites is to not use them.

That means the need to be aware when doing business on the internet.
Not just in connection with vehicle information but all companies.

I don't know how you got to the website you used but when I visited it just now this message was displayed:
    Vehicle Information

    VEHICLE STATUS CHECK

Monthly vehicle status check for peace of mind with information you can’t get from the government

Start your 24 hour trial for 50p today. Full membership is just £7.95/month

Didn't that ring warning bells that you were not on the official website?

Can it really be called a scam if the website clearly states that it is not the official government website?

People who are not "savvy on a computer" need to be doubly careful about any website they use.

The only way I can see anything for VEHICLEINFORMATIONUK is by typing that name into my search engine and it appears below 3 entries for .gov sites.  Searching for tax vehicle etc gives .gov links at the top.

The thread has been running for over 4 years though...
  • Vehicle Information somehow garnered my email, my bank card details and my car registration and ,unknown to me, collected the 50p start up fee and eleven monthly payments of £7.95 before I realised.(take more care with bank statements, I know!). I rang them and stopped the payments. They refunded four payments.
I asked them to email me the form with which I am supposed to have registered with them. They have not complied.
I am at a loss to understand how this happened and very worried. I have cancelled the debit card they used.
It may be a coincidence but, just before it started, my garage had carried out an MOT and informed DVSA.

Nope, at some point you went to their website and put in your details.

Of course it's a scam - why are you defending it? Optimised to jump over the gov.uk site on Google search. First page 'tax your vehicle', designed to look like the .gov site, straight in with card details. Intended to scam busy people trying to pay their car tax. I guess those jumping to the defence of it have some interest in it. This kind of crap scamming wastes everyone's time
I agree, but then maybe I would because I too fell for the “tax you vehicle” and (stupidly) thought this was a new way into DVLA. It was only at the end of the process that I became suspicious and contacted my bank to get a new credit card issued (I’ve written off the 50p!). Why would anybody want to pay £5 odd a month for information they already know?

    WOW!
The post you quoted is almost 4 years old.
The posts afterwards clearly explain why it isn't a scam.
Just 'busy' people falling to take enough care when on the internet.

And anyone who says "I guess those jumping to the defence of it have some interest in it."
    😂😂😂😂
If I had £1 for every company I've been accused of 'having interest in', I'd be able to buy MSE - 10 times over.

"This kind of crap scamming wastes everyone's time".

    No, it doesn't.
It only wastes those people's time who are too 'busy' to make sure they are on the official website.
And it wastes their money too.

Are you admitting to having an interest in MSE then?   :)

I want to meet one of these scammers.   They can guess a persons name, email, vehicle reg and bank details..

I want one of them to pick next weeks lottery numbers.  Should be a hit 100% risk free.
