Scam - Vehicle Information

Beware, you think you are on DVLA but this scam takes an initial 50p from your account, then £5.95 every month.  I've been in touch with my bank but very difficult to get through to banks at this time.  I've been googling and there are many, many posts about this scam.  Angry with myself for falling for it, but easy to do when you are multi tasking and not paying attention!  Whilst I hope to reclaim the payment from my bank, am more concerned that an unscrupulous company can get money from me so easily.

    On the other thread
@Hermione_Granger can't see anything that states or even implies that you are on the DVLA website. In fact, the only time that the DVLA is mentioned is this:
VehicleInformation.uk is not affiliated with the Government or DVLA. Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.

Since this is not a "scam", but simply a mistake on your part, your bank can't help you with this..

Why don’t you just cancel the service as the website says you can?

You obviously input your card details into the site and it’s quite clear on the website what the pricing structure is. I can’t help but feel this is your own fault.

2 uses of the word "scam" and 1 "unscrupulous" and despite the company concerned doing nothing whatsoever wrong, you are trying to get your bank to reverse the payment.
For the sake of £6.45, put it down to a lesson learnt and take more care before handing over your card details in the future.

As I said on the other thread:

I don't see any scam - I see a service that gives you a signup for 50p, then £5.95 a month. On the front page it states:
*£0.50 for 24 hour trial. Full membership price of £5.95 per month is charged automatically after this period. Cancel membership at any time.
It says cancel membership at any time - so have you done that via your account on their website? Why are you trying to contact your bank? It should just be a simple click button somewhere on your account that will end the membership?

Of course it's a scam - why are you defending it? Optimised to jump over the gov.uk site on Google search. First page 'tax your vehicle', designed to look like the .gov site, straight in with card details. Intended to scam busy people trying to pay their car tax. I guess those jumping to the defence of it have some interest in it. This kind of crap scamming wastes everyone's time

I would agree if this was a scam site but it isn't.  It looks nothing like the gov.uk site.  In fact the site looks a bit rubbish. It doesn't claim to do anything other than what it does.  It is very clear about the services it provides and their costs.
Lets say for a second you were a "busy person" wanting to pay your car tax and ended up at this site.  You can't actually pay your car tax on the site.
Now I don't need any of their services. Some people will who are buying cars and want to check their history.  There are lots of sites out their you can get to do that.  This one is a bit cheaper than most.  I suppose the main thing being its a subscription service rather than a one off payment.  Before you say it I have no connection to them whatsoever.  Scamming does waste time and money.  Can't see how this is one though.
