sjb_2 said:Of course it's a scam - why are you defending it? Optimised to jump over the gov.uk site on Google search. First page 'tax your vehicle', designed to look like the .gov site, straight in with card details. Intended to scam busy people trying to pay their car tax. I guess those jumping to the defence of it have some interest in it. This kind of crap scamming wastes everyone's time
Edit, not sure what ypur seing but I searched instead for "tax your vehicle" and the gov.uk is top of the list.1 -

Just because someone doesn't agree with an opinion that you have doesn't mean that they must work for or have some other interest in the business being discussed.
To be honest, I can't see how you think it looks like the .gov website and they do nothing to hide the fact that you have to pay for their service:

All you people on here saying this is not a scam. Check this out. The link on google which is the top hit every now and again when you google ‘check my car tax’ takes you to their page where you enter your reg (not their home page).
For you people saying it doesn’t appear on your searches, the ad will not appear as the top hit every time. Google ads are more sophisticated that that.
Because of the nature of google ads, it is not clear that it’s an advert and not the legit government site.It does not take you to their home page which is much clearer as stated by other people on this thread.
This page at a casual glance looks like an official .gov DVLA page. It’s even in the same colours with a similar format. 50p seems like a reasonable charge too. I must have been in a rush when I accessed it because I don’t even remember doing it. Unfortunately below (in the small print) you are subscribing to £5.95 a month without it being clear that’s what you are doing. You don’t receive any update emails, it just quietly disappears from your account every month until like me, you notice it 8 months later. If you look at what you’re getting for £5.95, it is clear that it’s not worth the subscription at all further confirming the fact this is borderline phishing.
This is further confirmed by the fact when you complain they immediately refund you 4 months as a good will gesture.
I’m taking them to the small claims court on principle. I’ll let you know how I get on.Companies like this need to be shut down.1 -
<Check this out. The link on google which is the top hit every now and again when you google ‘check my car tax’ takes you to their page >Always taken me to GOV page , just wonder if some users browsers are the cause .1

Top 3 hits for me are.gov.uk links. These sites used to look like they were official but they no longer do. I can't really see how anyone can be fooled especially as they clearly show the charges.

In May I went on line and paid for my car tax. The same day a deduction of 50p was taken from my account by this scam takes an initial 50p from your account, then £5.95 every month. I am remiss as I didn’t check individual transactions.
I've been in touch with my bank but very difficult to get through to banks at this time. The £5.95 was then taken for the next 6 months. Payments have now been stopped and a fraud investigation is taking a look at it.
The scam is by a company called Vehicle information.
Worst case – I googled “MOT date check”DVLA and another web site (Vehicle information) offered the check looking like the DVLA . I opened what looked like the DVLA MOT check. I gave no card /payment details.None required.
The only time I gave card details was to the actual DVLA on the same day to pay for my MOT which is now in place( on my account as separate transaction). So a second line of enquiry is whether there is a scam link between the company and the DVLA. I know the DVLA have defended but haven’t answered this question- but it is worth a real investigation- how many are having £6.95 a month taken from their account each month- a small amount- in Covid ,when you can’t talk to banks easily. I could call them names but I don’t want the posting taken down.
Beware of those who defend this company.
