    Hi Polly,

Am just working out my figures so will commit definitely tomorrow when I have been through everything but am hoping to go for £8000. Be back tomorrow to confirm, feel really positive and it has already pushed me to get up and make some financed phonecalls already this morning!

    Hi everyone,
I've put this challenge back in my signature cause even if the thought of it stresses me out, the fact is I need to pay off this money by September.
So I've re-organised myself a bit and I've got to start ebaying with a vengence.....
  • Wow loads of updates today, well done everyone, great news Taxi, I was really excited when Lloyds offered me 0% for 6 months with no balance transfer fee, all these things make a difference, good for you.
Unixgirl, don't let the dress go if its THE one of you'll kick yourself, it's a great price, I bought mine 4 years before I got married from a newspaper, cost £100 & I still loved it when I got married in it.
Alimac hope you're feeling a bit better, this debt thing does get you down sometimes I know & you've paid extra on your card, so you should be happy! you're doing great.
Madmich good luck with the bike test/ lessons, especially if it will save you money in the long run.
    Good luck Candyblue & FrankieM
    Welcome Tara
Hello Pollydaydream, & thank you for starting this thread, it has really helped me to get on with things & stop faffing, so thanks:grin:
Hope I haven't missed anyone out
A good bit of news today, which I must say, is starting to scare me a bit, too many good things happening lately, ISA money, Job, now I've had a letter from the people sorting my husbands tax for us ( he's at sea ) & he will be elligible for a full tax rebate, knew this could be possible, but didn't bank on it, so not exactly sure how much or when he'll get it, but another bonus, just worries me, which I know sounds stupid, but I'm waiting for the bad news!!

WOW great news Kizzy..you're life ahs turned around
  • Thanks Taxi, it's about time it did really, have had a lot of awful times in the last 8 years, good times too, but the bad certainly outweighed the good.
Also it has taken my Husband being away from our 2 children aged 6 & 4 for weeks on end, we haven't seen him since the begining of February & he's not due back until about the end of May, but him going away, & earning more money was the start of clearing all this debt, without that we would be in a terrible mess by now, I suppose we all have to make sacrifices, just missing him at the moment:( He's back for good in July:confused: though he's reapplied to go again, next time would be for us, so we could move etc, not sure whether I/we can cope with it again, but will cross that bridge when I/we come to it.
Sorry to ramble..........what's this got to do with not faffing about:o

That sacrifice has been worth it though as it will give you a better future and at least you will have choices...you will still pop on here won't you?..cos we'll miss you if you go
  • aaah, thanks Taxi, that's really kind, I'd be very lonely without my "virtual friends" for company, as by 7.30pm the kids are usually in bed & I'm alone, so of course i'll be around, boring the hell out of anyone & everyone!
I chatter too much & post too much as well, but without everyone on here I'd be very sad you've all helped me so much:A

  • Hello everybody,

I'd like to set myself the challenge of paying off £8000 of my debt by christmas.

It could be tricky because at my current rate, it looks like I'll only pay off just over £5000 at the moment, I'm finding different ways to tighten my belt every day though.

    Good luck,

  • Hi Shannys Taxi Driver ( I was going to abreviate your name, but STD doesn't sound very nice:rotfl: )
Welcome aboard, £5000 sounds like a really good amount, by Xmas, it took me a year to pay £7,000 off, & it's March already, if you manage to do £8,000 it would be fantastic, even if you think you can't do it you have to set the goals high, you just never know ;)
As well as tightening the belt, have a look at quidco, when you need to renew insurances etc, the cashback can make the insurance almost free! I also made a few quid doing the free bingo sites, ebay whatever you can or when the weather gets better carboot, buy shops own & bulk cook so you have meals frozen, for days when you can't be bothered to cook & would give in & have a takeaway.
Most of all keep posting/ reading this site as you will learn so much it's untrue - Good Luck:A
