Is that correct or am I still missing something again? Cheers.AdrianC said:wakkaday said:i just spoke to my electricity company and they compared a reading within 7 days and says i used around 1000w which is more then then i used since december 2019 (actual reading) its about a 3 months worth use in 1 week, i think he said
"1000w" in this context would most likely mean 1000Wh, 1kWh - the amount of electricity used by leaving a 1kW heater on for one hour, or a 50w lightbulb for 20 hours. That's normally about 15p-worth. Yep, fifteen pence.
Thanks Adrian for the offer but do not like tea. I drink GIN. Not a dear, but a Grumpy Old Hasbeen. LOL

guys just an update
he definitely does have a washing machine in there and i think a tumble dryer (or a freezer) next to it
i managed to take a pic of the washing machine
i have looked my lease document and it states, well the previous owner has stated that my property doesnt supply any pipeworking, wiring etc to another property but then these are 2 garages which are under leasehold for 999 years affixed to my property
i am just waiting for the moment to hear the washing machine go off and switch off my supply and see if that makes a difference
but until then, is there anything else i can do - or is it a matter of waiting
so just a reminder my bedroom is above the garage where these devices are? not sure on the legality of this
this is a managed estate we live in, i could contact the management company?0 -
It's nothing to do with the electricity supplier. It's nothing to do with the management company. You either: do nothing, ask him to pay a contribution to your bill, install a private sub-meter and bill him for it, or disconnect the circuit feeding his garage. Where your bedroom is is not relevant.
Have you actually gone to the CU yet to see if there is a separate circuit marked 'My garage' and 'Scrounger's garage? If so, just turn off his circuit.
The real issue is whether all the potential aggro this could cause between you is worth it for the sake of maybe £20 a year? There are bigger issues in the world to worry about at present. No free lunch, and no free laptop1 -

You can do it all or one circuit breaker at a time at your consumer unit.
Personally, I would turn all individual circuit beakers off at your consumer unit, even the ones for lights.
Turn each one back on and go round property with notebook writing down what it supplies (turns back on)
The one you turn back on and does nothing for you might be suspect? Leave it off to see if you eventually notice something not working in your property or if you do not hear your neighbours washing machine for a while.
A photo of your consumer unit showing circuit breakers and any other small type consumer units in property would be helpful?
As others have pointed out it is not up to utility provider or management companies to rectify any discrepencies that you suspect?
It is really up to you. What to do. And how to deal with it? With a good agreement/solution with your neighbour, if there is actually a problem .
Hopefully solution soon?

You don't need to wait to hear the washing machine go off. In fact quite the reverse.
If the machine is running, kill your power - all of it!
What happens?
Machine stops or machine keeps going, it's as simple as that.0 -

But the same solutions that are now being suggested to the OP are the same ones that were first suggested 10 days ago?
So would agree with "not sure why this is so difficult" part above.
Hopefully OP will try at least some suggestions and come back with any answers?

OP has been much too busy with his ear glued to the bedroom floor for the last ten days to update us.
Still. I suppose it passes those long hours in lockdown...No free lunch, and no free laptop3 -
