Just to let everyone know the bill has come through this evening. When the engineer came out he has put it down as a non-fault and I was not negligent. I took his name but not sure how far I'll get...
    I'll keep the thread updated.

Thanks for the update. That's good to know. Can attack my garden with a little less concern now! :)

I'm not sure if I worded that correctly they have charged me the £99.

Oops, I misunderstood. Will still have to be careful then!

I had a cable fault that I genuinely reported as a "fault" I was not charged. But these are different times.

Richard Branson does not own or run the Cable Company bearing the Virgin name.   The old Telewest & NTL companies merely paid for the use of the Virgin  branding when they merged a few years back. So your joke falls a bit flat I'm afraid...

    That's unfortunate.

Did you state when you initially called Virgin that you had accidentally cut through the cable or just state your equipment was not working.

Thinking about it now, if stated cut cable then they might automatically have had a bill ready to send out to you.

If you are paying a lot for your set up and out of any contract it might be worth calling them back to challenge and also talk about cancelling your account?

They wanted to re-brand anyway and using an already  well known name was judged to be worth the cost.
Note that the NTL name especially had a poor reputation for reliability and customer service at the time..
Branson was involved initially,  taking a mix of cash and a 10% shareholding as payment, but swiftly sold his shares once the company was established.
