Thank you so much for your reply and advice.
    It is a male employer.
I am the only " member of staff " employed - I use both staff and employed terms confusingly, as I have had such a stressful time since broaching the subject of being paid ? during this shielding, that communications have stopped , with it all up in the air .
I think , as far as he is concerned, that because I am not on a PAYE payroll , I am not entitled ( something of which I have no idea , either , because, as we know, these are times that no one has had to face before )  . Nor can I have sick pay, because I don't earn enough , he said.
I daresay that if I sent him an enquiry, I may get a reply, but it's been so stressful that I have had to take a break from it all, whilst still trying to plough my way through trying to find out if there is any hard and fast details I could go by , which I could then send through to ask of him.
He did, some 12 days ago, send me a message , saying that he was suspending my job .
When I approached him over this shielding and my pay, he then said " because I had accepted payment " that that offer no longer applied ??!!!??? Honestly, I don't know if I'm on my head or my elbow with it all.
The only "payment" I had received, was my wages for the week I had worked ( one day, 5 hrs) and the following week's wage , which was a pre coronavirus holiday week booked . ??!!  I have no idea what on earhts happening .
I have tried communicating with him via e mail, but he doesn't answer the questions put to him, just send back more questions and also had started altering the type of contract ( ?) I have with him.
    So confused..............
Did he pay you cash in hand, or did you get a payslip?

He is correct on both counts I'm afraid. Sort of.

He's sort of correct because as I explained before, it sets the rules for what funding your employer can receive rather than what you should be paid.

He is correct because he would only be eligible for that funding if he operates PAYE. And he is not required to operate PAYE or pay you SSP, because you earn below the amount that PAYE/SSP becomes mandatory.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

I have read lots on here and also received answers from several people, thank you , I'm very grateful for any help and advice .
Just wondering if anyone else out there is an unpaid carer , like me, who works ( is only small amount of part time hours , but wage is very much appreciated)    and has been asked to shield , for 12 weeks,  as well as the cared for having to shield ?
    Thanks

I note on another thread that your partner is claiming Income Related ESA, which means you must also be named on that claim. You working means that you will be able to keep £20 per week of your earnings and anything more than that will reduce your ESA £1 for £1. I know it's difficult to ring DWP right now but your partner needs to keep trying to ring them to report the changes because the ESA will increase because you're no longer working.

Thank you - we will do our best to keep trying to get through .  I was thinking of writing a letter to notify them , as that's how we have notified changes in the past always. It's just these circumstances with the virus that have made it so difficult , I think, yes.  Yes, that's right, that's how it has been , as you say, that it's £22.50 only that is taken into account .
I had managed to get an online notification to the Carer Allowance dept, but nothing else.
I will then need to re notify in the 12 weeks, when I get back to work?
Employer not happy I can't go in ,
    Thank you

Writing a letter may not help and it could be weeks before you see the increase in the ESA. Keep trying to ring them, you will eventually get through. Yes, when you return to work you will need to contact them again to report the changes.

Oh where will it all end , I wonder.
Employer says he has suspended my job because I said I can't go in to work as I have been requested to shield due to being in high risk vulnerable group.
    Any advice, please ?
