Would you be eligible for SSP? How much are you paid for those 5 hours?

SSP can't be claimed when working 5 hours a week. https://www.gov.uk/statutory-sick-pay/eligibility
Furlough isn't an option if work is available.

Unless I'm going blind, I don't see anything there specifying a minimum number of hours, just a minimum average weekly wage.

It's unlikely that the OP would be earning and average of £120 per week working 5 hours.

Hi - thank you for your replies.  I'm very grateful. I have tried to get through to various government depts but of course they are all frantically busy.
I have read and re read all Martin's advice which is so good.
I am under the limit for SSP.
I have read shielding and high risk groups ( that is the only reason I can't go to work , from my point of view- but also , my employer is 70+ , so is also shielding ).
    I earn £42.50 .per week.
    Thanks

Look at Universal Credit. Information here https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/
    Claim online https://www.gov.uk/universal-credit/how-to-claim

There are online calculators to help you assess entitlement  https://www.gov.uk/benefits-calculators

You will be excluded from claiming UC if you have capital/savings over £16,000.

Be aware that claiming UC will end any Tax Credits, Housing Benefit or other means tested benefits you currently get.

You may also be able to claim Council Tax Reduction from your local council

Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

    Hi
    Thank you .
It's because of the Housing benefit loss etc that I am reluctant to claim-  just more stress than this , I guess.
It 's looking as if I will just have to grin and bear it , which is more stress as , as I said , my wage might not be much, but it has a bearing on our household budget.
I had also read the info about being able to be furloughed , if shielding for the 12 weeks, but then Im not sure if that means it applies to people on PAYE only - yet I read on here ( on the advice pages) that someone who is shielding and or required to stay home due to caring for someone, can be furloughed and that it is very much the employer's choice. Saying all this, I'm confused by all the different conditions.
Thank you for getting in touch , I really do appreciate any help , to clearly understand it .

Housing benefit will continue for 2 weeks once you claim Universal Credit. Then housing element will be paid as part of UC.
Do a benefits calculator check before claiming UC. https://www.entitledto.co.uk/

I was just reading some other posts............
I am my husband's carer - I also read that if a person is required to stay home to look after another , who has had a letter and is shielding , then they can be furloughed? ?  This is what I am so unsure of, when I read up on it.
Sites like Acas say to keep talking to your employer, which I 've tried , but it isn't being received that well and because I am not 100% of the facts I don't really like to argue , yet I still don't know if I could ask for pay ?
