What to do with lies from staff at Baclaycard

in Credit cards
In February I had a bit of a spend on bits for a house refurb in March. I never run up high bills and always pay them off. My 30th of March bill was 2.2k. But then on the 23rd of March, we were told it's a lockdown. I am a self-employed driving instructor and obviously can't work. Knowing what was going on, on the 21st of March I called Barclaycard to ask them if they would be able to allow me to just pay the minimum payment due and not charge me interest on the balance. After the call handler spoke to his manager they have agreed and even told me if the system charges me, to call back and get a refund. I have this call recorded as proof too. Well, they did charge me £35 and when I got my new statement today, I called them back. I was told the staff made a mistake and should not be telling me any of the above! To be honest, if I knew it's all lies I would have paid off the bill and ask a friend for an IFC loan to live on rather then pay £35 in interest when I am earning nothing. My argument is that it's not my error and it's dishonest to make verbal agreements with false promises then revert and penalize the customer. What shall I do?

What should you do? well this:
1 change your heading to remove the word lies
2 realise that you have taken out a loan ie a credit card and therefore pay the minimum amount whilst you are not working but also accept that the interest is something you agreed to pay when you took out the credit card6 -
I do not think you are being fair when you say that a Barclaycard told you lies. It sounds to me like an omission in good faith.
You should simply make a written complaint, explaining that you were advised 21/03/2020 that you were not going to be charged interest on your latest statement due to the impact of coronavirus.
Tip: Don't accuse anyone of lies when you make your complaint.

Maybe the call operator made a mistake, but it isn't lies. You took credit and upset at getting charged interest for it. Companies are offering payment holidays due to CV19, that isn't interest free, just allowing people to pay less than contractually agreed.
It seems you spent 2.2K and either didn't have the means to pay it back before getting charged interest or tried to take advantage of the situation to not pay interest , especially as you phoned up and asked before the lockdown was in place when I assume you still had an income.0 -
I would like to add to above posts - if you wish to remain a Barclaycard customer now and in the future I would tone down your comments.
No credit card company had come up with any kind of plan about how to deal with the lockdown by the date you phoned them.0 -
Thank you all for your replies. In response, I have had the means to pay as I was working full time and was expected to do so. I have been their customer for 20+ years and never defaulted on any payments. My grievance is that I was told I will be allowed to make the minimum payment for the next 2 months as I have no income and not pay interest on the balance but that would allow me to have the money to live on. As I have stated in the original post, IF I was told on the 21st of March that I will be charged interest on the balance I would have found another way. £35 is a lot of money when there's no money coming in.
You might be saying I was not told lies but was I told the truth?0 -

They’re not stopping interest.
Even the emails they send out to customers make no mention of freezing interest.0 -
