I just switched to this a few days ago, and seem to be managing it ok, especially in the current climate!
I've had my first plunge pricing last night (so set me washer to run overnight), but is there a way to check if I've been paid for any usage?
2p off is still 2p off!

When you get your first bill you will see a summary of the cost for each individual day so it will be easy to check that you have paid or been paid as appropriate.

  • Could I ask how long it takes to change to the agile tariff? Today my switch completed to octopus but couldn't go straight to agile even though I have a smart meter. I was advised to switch to any other tariff and then once switched I could move to agile.
Today and they have started he process and are taking 30 minute readings. I have read this can take up to another 14 days.

Once they are getting the 30 min readings you can move with effect from midnight, so the next day.
  • the app octowatchdog is useful to see quickly when the low prices are in the next 24 hrs. it also shows averages - mine is 5.57p/kWh over the last 28 days.

  • I’ve just switched too and have asked about the Agile tariff.

I was told by them that it can take up to 2 weeks for the smart meter to connect up to them and begin sending automatic readings. This is an industry regulated process and happens automatically.

This shows just what is wrong with the energy industry. I can move money between banks instantly - the banking industry has moved into the 21st century.
Why does it take the energy industry "up to two weeks" to tweak with a few bytes of data. I am sure nobody knows why. It's a few processor cycles, taking microseconds of real time. But this dinosaur of an industry hides behind the "we've always done it that way" mantra. Paying customers are, it seems, just an annoying irritation!

Current issues are mostly down to the number of different organisations in the data path, all of which have to shuffle their bytes correctly.
The 'two weeks' estimate is to cover themselves, it doesn't usually take more than a couple of days or so which is simply down to the data polls not being more frequent than 24 hours.
It is when there is a misconfiguration somewhere that is takes a while to figure out who is wrong...

I have been looking at some number, and with the current situation of working from home for my wife and I, our energy usage is evenly spread through the house. I don´t use more energy from 4 to 7 than I use from 1 to 4, specially at this time of the year that the is plenty of light outside, and I use as much after 7pm as we tend to do washing, drying, cooking after 7pm as we are in Spanish timings for meals (Oven usually goes on at 8pm or 14pm if anything and same for other stuff)
Taking this into account, and with an even spread of energy ussage, and being able to put washing machine, dishwasher and dryer after 10pm, would it make sense to change to Agile? Since it´s only energy, do they have some cheap gas tariff so that you don´t loose all that you safe?

Short answer is yes. Your mix of use is very similar to mine so it is highly likely that you will benefit from switching to Agile.
For your gas you can pick from any of the gas tariffs they offer, currently the cheapest is probably this one:
That price is for the Eastern region today, so your region may vary slightly from this.
You can take just the gas from that tariff and Agile for your electricity. This is a popular combination and allows you to track the wholesale gas prices on a daily basis.

Thanks for confirming my numbers made sense. I have made an excel and made modification leaving a contants number from 7pm to 2am and 8am to 4pm (I know it is not fully reallistical but kind of works and those hours is when energy is cheaper) And doing some increased numbers from 4pm to 7pm, with 2 high half and hour each peaks, and still saves me something like 50p a day, which over the course of a month is like 15 pounds.
Can I chance to any tariff for now? Also, how would I know if my smart meters work with them?
