Hi,
I normally pay my CC bill in cash each month at the bank, using the payment slip at the bottom of the bill.
My bank are discouraging people from entering for anything other than "essential/emergency" transactions.
Question: what's the best way to pay my monthly CC bill using cash in order to minimise the risk to bank staff?
I normally just go to the counter so I am not familiar with what automated services may be available and for obvious reasons I can't just call into my local branch and ask.

Where is the cash coming from to pay the bill?

Start using online services to pay the bill.

I can not use online services as the money to pay the bill is currently held in cash. If your suggestion is to deposit the money and then pay the bill online, how is that any different to just paying the bill in cash? And how would I safely (for the bank staff) deposit the money?

Surely you can telephone your bank?
Many banks have ATMs that accept cash deposits: perhaps your bank offers this.

Use one of the automated pay in machines, no need to go anywhere near the staff.

Post offices are still accepting cash payments either cash into bank accounts or to pay bills. Our local post office staff are wearing gloves and masks and have additional screens in place.
Are you intending to pay your card off in full this time to avoid this happening again next month?

OK, so how do they work and how reliable are they (never used one before)? So I can deposit the cash without the need for human intervention and then pay the bill online?

Stick it in an envelope and post it to them?
  • Poor advice there; sending it through the post like that is just asking for trouble.

They are reliable, obviously they have to be. Different banks have various models and you don't mention who yours is, but you just follow the on-screen instructions and a receipt is issued. Not all banks have them and some may only be located inside the branch.

Which bank is it, so a little more specific advice can be given?  Is the one closest to you still open?
