Online shopping deliveries to door?

  • Had 2 Asda deliveries. Both 2nd floor to flat front door but no lift. Vast majority of goods in bags which were put very hastily on my doorstep but 2m distance near enough maintained as I had front door open. 4pt milk & something else (can't remember what) loose in crate which I picked out whilst driver stood back. 1st delivery driver had to go back downstairs to get more of order whilst I brought bags inside.
Both times polite. Both times bang on time. A few items had dubious quality which were refunded first time on phone - not a long wait to get through & 2nd time I did it online. Would use again if can get slot but as 1st driver said as I asked him which shop he'd come from - are very hard to get. Both mine were mid eve slots.

Much to my amazement my delivery from Asda this morning was bagged - long may it continue!

One option is to have some bags ready, when the delivery guy comes and is going to leave your items on the steps, ask him if he has bags - if not, give him yours to put the items in.

I agree and had I been asked I would have left out bags or cardboard boxes. Anything is better than having your butter, cooked meats, sausages etc dumped on a filthy doormat.

lol. I wash the indoor ones but the outside one is that coir stuff, I bang it against the wall and sweep it but don;t think it will wash well
  • Both Tesco and Ocado have begged their deliveries since the start of the epidemic. Much easier.

I've used a washing basket in the past to transfer unbagged shopping in to the house, worked well and quicker than re bagging.

If you have a large plastic storage container you could put that on your doormat with a note "please use this for grocery delivery items, thanks". More hygienic and also easier to handle for you.

I've only had one delivery from Morrisons since Covid came, and that was bagged.
I have used Click and Collect at Asda and Sainsburys, and those orders were also bagged (the Asda one in very thin unbranded carrier bags, some of which had torn, Sainsburys is the good quality orange bags that they normally sell for 10p. I will not need to buy any more bags for a long time!
If I was expecting a delivery, I would have a couple of my large blue Ikea bags near the door, in case the delivery arrived unbagged.
  • i would have made arrangements of the type recommended had I known the delivery would be unbagged. I have not had my shopping delivered unbagged before.
