Just wondered if anyone has tried claiming back the 50% yet?

A few years ago when i had a standard rate mobility award i claimed the 50% road tax reduction. My PIP award was backdated for 10/11 months and i was owed some money from the road tax i had previously paid. Instead of refunding me the money DVLA took it off the next road tax, which meant meant my total amount i needed to pay was zero. Whether they still do this or refund the money i don't know.

Yes a few times sometimes with 6 months cheque in  Time for 12 mths tax to be applied.
Other times by paying full 12 months by debit card and re claiming 6 months by cheque when tax hasn't been processed in Time.

So are they open for business again then?

If so, I will make contact with them and see if they still want me to go through the usual procedure of sending everything to them, which will probably be the case.

Such a palaver to get this 50%, surely there has to be a better way.

You will still need to go through the same process as before when claiming the 50% reduction. It can't be done any other way but to send all your documents, including the payment to DVLA. https://www.disabledmotoring.org/motoring/road-tax-50-reduction

Yes I have claimed the 50% off road tax. Paid the full amount online then put in claim. DVLA are running a little slow but today I received a letter that a cheque would follow together with the rest of the documents. I’m amazed that they require these documents as they are a government body and should have access to PIP etc.

I can sort of understand that they want to see your PIP award letter as that is issued by DWP, but all of the information relating to the vehicle is readily available to be checked online.  I just don't see why you have to send off the V5C and MOT every year, it is crazy.
