In my recent years experience , 50% cheque is repayable when renewing road tax online.
If you call Dvla after making full payment.
Replenished CRA Reports.2020 Nissan Leaf 128-149 miles top charge. Savings depleted. VM Stream tv M250 Volted to M350 then M500 since returned to 1gb

I suppose if nobody knows how to get around this, we will just go ahead and renew the tax online paying the full amount and hope we can claim the 50% back later on.  Not ideal, but don't want the tax to lapse.
I'm sure you should be able to. If the vehicle is registered as disabled he should only be paying 50% online anyway? I had to renew mine online at a cost of 0.00. Have you tried to see what its charging online?
The 50% discount can't be renewed online, unlike if you get the full 100% discount on road tax.  It's always been send all the documents in by post and it takes ages for them to process it.  It took them all their time to do it when there was no Corona Virus so goodness knows how the DVLA will cope with it now.  We've just paid the full road tax this time because there is enough stress as it is at the moment.
I wasnt aware of this thank you. What a fart-arsed way of doing things :/

  • Hi I have the same problem . Only being on the ball I sent all my documents in at beginning of April . Only to find out that Swansea is closed as you say they won’t speak to us because we are not keyworkers and I can’t pay online because I now have no documents so I’m currently untaxed and really worried about it. ( I did used to pay nil but when I went for pip interview she decided I cud walk further despite my hips and back being worse than when I was given DLA indefinitely !!! It’s amazing how they can stop things despite me barely being able to walk) if anyone has any ideas I’d be grateful.

If you have a copy of the log book it will have a document reference number which is half way down the front page on the right hand side.

You can use that number together with the Reg number to tax it online but you'll have to pay the full cost.

We've had to pay the full cost on ours but hubby will try to claim the 50% back when things settle down.

I went ahead and renewed online paying the full amount.

Hopefully there won't be any problem in getting 50% refunded when they are up and running again.

I also my sent documents to DVLA in April because of the 50p% reduction.  Car is untaxed, what happens if Police check?   Very worried.
    Thanks

Well hopefully under the circumstances they would understand that it is not your fault.

Have you checked to see if the cheque you sent to the DVLA has been cashed?  Have you double-checked what the online status is at https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax ?

Might be worth writing to your MP about the whole farce that is the 50% VED for the LRM PIP process, and also your specific current predicament?

If your car isn't taxed then you shouldn't really be driving it. You can tax it online and pay the full amount then receive a refund but i'd would definitely advise you not to drive it (not that we're allowed to drive much lately)

We have done the same as you - paid the tax in full and hopefully will get 50% back but not holding my breath.  The system for getting the 50% relief on road tax is laughable.
