No it's not as it contains personal data like your date of birth , nor should they ask for photos either

Use a copy of the V5C for the vehicle , or a copy of the court claim form from the CCBC

Or redacted copies of 2 recent utility bills

Or all of what I said , meaning two , three or four I D , but not what they asked for

Personally I would set up a new Gmail email address for dealing with this , not using my real one , I would refuse to supply a telephone number too , but I would agree to email and post
  • I have sold the car 2 years ago so don’t have the V5C but I will send them the court letter

He replied saying they need photographic evidence. This is so stupid, why should I share my personal information with them!! They want a driving license or passport! I am not comfortable with sharing either one with this company at all!

If they continue to refuse to comply with the SAR submission and continue to request photographic ID, report them immediately with no further warning to the ICO.  They have no right to ask for photographic ID and, of course, they have a photo of you to which they can compare your ID!

As above , report them to the ico

Perhaps ask him for a copy of his own driving licence and passport to prove his I D ?
  • Sent him this email. I will make sure to add this to my defence to show how unprofessional they are

    Hi,

This is the last email I will send about my SAR. I am not feeling comfortable sharing my driving license or passport with your company.

I have checked ICO’s website and you only require certain information to identify or distinguish me from other individuals. I have provided my name, address, vehicle registration number, PCN number and the letter of court which you have sent me! These informations are more than enough. Here is the link to ICO and what type of information you need ico.org.uk/your-data-matters/your-right-to-get-copies-of-your-data/preparing-and-submitting-your-subject-access-request/ .

If you still require other sort of evidences from me such as my photographic ID, then let me know so I can make a formal complaint to ICO.

    Thank you

You were too soft on them (IMO).

I thought I was too harsh 😂. Maybe I should post it here next time before sending it to them
  • Thank you for your latest email. We have been processing SAR requests since the inception of GDPR in May 2018 and have dealt with many cases. As you can see in the statement below which is quoted directly from the Information Commissioners Office, we are well within our rights to request additional identification to confirm who you are.

‘If you have doubts about the identity of the person making the request you can ask for more information. However, it is important that you only request information that is necessary to confirm who they are. The key to this is proportionality.’

‘You need to let the individual know as soon as possible that you need more information from them to confirm their identity before responding to their request. The period for responding to the request begins when you receive the additional information.’

Your name and the email address you are corresponding from are not the same, so to ensure that we do not receive any unlawful requests from the wrong person and make sure we don’t supply peoples personal data to the wrong person we may ask for photo identification. If you do not feel comfortable doing this then you are of course well within your rights to contact the ICO yourself and we would of course support your decision and would take any instruction from the ICO to aid your request in a different way.

    I hope this helps.

I forgot you cannot make a email with your nickname! This is the most stupid response I have received in my life. I have given them all the information they need and they still want more!
  • Called them to ask about what the hell the PCN is about and they said I have to call DCBL. Called them and they say I have to email them. I don’t even know what to say anymore
