Did any one ever find out what these payments are? I just received mine yesterday, I haven’t had a letter about it yet and when I called HMRC yesterday after noting the payment in my bank the person had no idea what I was talking about. If anyone has figured out what is going on and could let me know that would be great!

No one has ever come back to say what the payment was for so it's unlikely they will now.

Hi the payment i had received was for a complaint that i had made regarding  working tax credits. HMRC also did not know what it was when i enquired via phone.
It Wasn't until i called again regarding the complaint that i asked and the complaints team confirmed it was due to this complaint. Hope this helps at least a little bit.

Good afternoon.

I received a refund from HMRC which on my bank account was recorded as HMRC ERP yesterday. 

I didn’t have a clue what it was for and luckily today I got a letter from HMRC to advise that this was to do with Tax credits. The letter advised that it was for the disability element of tax credits that I did not get for  tax years 18/19 and 19/20.

i had assumed it was for benefits of some kind as they are the only HMRC d  et partners that would already have my bank details attached to my records. 

Just wanted to report back what the refund was actually for and that you should receive a letter to explain why you are getting it like I did.
