Great detective work!
But I'm afraid you haven't finished yet. I'm sorry but don't expect Ebay to make it easy for you.The Police won't be interested, but you can file a report on the Action Fraud website, once you've done that you'll have a Reference Number that you can give to Ebay or use in the Small Claims Court if it ever went that far.To be honest I haven't had much luck Emailing or Online Chat with Ebay, they just keep repeating pre-prepared paragraphs saying that they can't prove what you actually sent your Buyer!Try the Ebay call back service, if you get someone with an Irish accent you might get somewhere, I believe that's where their call centre is based. You might have to keep on at them until they realise you're not going to give up easily. Try asking to speak to a Supervisor or Manager.I wish you the best of luck and hope you get your money back.0 -
I’ve tried ringing them loads last few days and no one is there . I’ll try chat first thing but I wonder if that is closed too. I wish I had known about this scam before . Ebay need proof of posting receipt from buyers too .soolin said:
It all depends how proactive you are, you need to phone eBay or use live chat and push and push them to understand what has happened. Have a picture of the label to hand that you can send them, as well as photos of what was in parcel.Moogles44 said:I found what he did!! It is a scam ! I went on social media today and asked if anyone in my road had a tracked parcel of anything they didn’t order and sure enough a lady replied and sent me a photo of the parcel in which are two small rolls of sellotape and he has altered the label to just my initials and changed one number in my address as I have 3 numbers but we have same postcode . And she’s had it delivered so it shows as me receiving the iPad. What an evil person!
ive already responded to dispute as my time was up To refund and he could have just gone for refund - I said that I have a problem with buyer but didn’t have this new info at the time but explained situation . what’s the bets ebay side with the scammer?
im amazed how professional label looks and surprise surprise no return address on that label( his)If you don’t like a thread or post just move on by.

If/when you speak to Ebay, the first person will just keep reading pre-prepared paragraphs and keep saying that as Ebay hasn't handled the item they have no way of knowing what you sent the Buyer. You'll feel like smashing your head on the wall, but keep your cool and tell them you are not accepting it, ask to speak to their Manager/Supervisor.The next person you speak to should actually listen to what you're saying and see the scam for what it really is, hopefully offer you a solution.Let us know how you get on. Good luck!1

Are you able to get to the Ebay page that offers you the Call Back Service? You enter your phone number and they usually call you back within 5 to 15 minutes. If not, let me know and I'll tell you a little trick.

You need to keep trying, I have now got though twice this week and once it was about 20 minutes the other time just under 30. I opted for live chat purely because I wanted a typed transcript of what they said, one of the reps I got was really really helpful, they went the extra mile trying to sort out my issue but they did mention I was the first person not to shout at them or call them names and they were getting stressed.Moogles44 said:

im amazed how professional label looks and surprise surprise no return address on that label( his)You really need to be proactive here, you are in a unique position of actually having proof of the scam which so many people don’t. It is going to be easier getting eBay to sort this rather than going down a legal route but that’s your next move. Keep all the photo evidence , screen shots of everything on eBay and start with the Letter before action.I’ve won cases on much less evidence than this purely by being firm but polite with eBay.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Just try every single reason under 'help/contact us' until you get the phone number.Moogles44 said:Hi,

What is the trick to get the number? The trick is: I've spoken to Ebay many times on the telephone, but I've never called them, I've always used the following method and it's worked for me every time:1. Log in to your Ebay account.2. Top left of the screen click on 'Help & Contact'.3. In the 'Search Ebay Help' type Closing Account and press enter.4. On the next screen click on 'Closing your account and deleting your data'5. On the next screen you will see 'contacting us' highlighted in blue, click on that.
6. Now you will see the box 'Have us call you'.
7. Click on that and then you should see the following, you can enter a UK landline or mobile number.

I've just tried this 3 times, first time it worked, 2nd time it said the 'Service is Temporarily Unavailable', 3rd time it worked again. If you're not getting anywhere, don't forget to ask to speak to a manager.Best of luck, hope you nail the s**mbag, get your money or iPad back and I really hope Ebay do the right thing and help you!

Have you completed a report on the Action Fraud website? You never know, it might flag up that your scammer has tried similar tricks in the past.I'm unable to post links to websites, but it's... www. actionfraud.police.ukConsidering your evidence, in my opinion you have a very strong case to take this to the Small Claims Court, but please don't just take my advice, ask someone like the Citizens Advice Bureau for their expert opinion.I wish you all the best.
