These are all really helpful. I already asked buyer for receipt of postage yesterday , as may show house number and postcode on receipt, and again no reply
If the buyer is a scammer which I suspect they might be, they will cease communication as soon as they get their money back.

My scammer went silent as soon as they got their money back.
What did you do after? Did you challenge it?

There is a scam that has been doing the rounds lately, I myself have been on the end of it when I sold a rather expensive laptop and on my occassion ebay did not help me out one bit and gave the buyer a full refund out of my paypal account.

This is how I believe it works, the scammer claims the item is faulty, in my case the laptop was 100% working.  Ebay issue them with a return label, they alter the address of the return label.  Item gets deliverered elsewhere, scammer has full tracking and seller is forced to foot the bill because ebay are too useless to understand how the scam works.  Or in my case they know how it works but would rather I lost my money than have to deal with it.
I’m interested in this as I’ve not come across this at all in any forum, do you have links to any comments or reports please?

I assume that if buyer has changed the return address by hand and RM confirm that, then a simple appeal should get the decision reversed . Do RM even allow pre printed eBay labels to be changed ? Surely as well this is a slam dunk win for any seller who fails to get the return due to fraud?

Even if eBay aren’t interested then this fraud would certainly be worth taking to small claims , proof that buyer tampered with a return to send to a different address should be an easy win for a seller.
They could easily tippex out a number on label which I reckon they have done on mine . Royal Mail are overworked at the moment with not much staff so they arnt going to notice

How are these Return Labels supplied? I've never seen one. Are they emailed and then the Buyer prints them or is an actual sticky label supplied?
What's stopping a scammer editing the label before printing or they could easily scan it, edit it with a different address then print it.
Or is there something in place to prevent this happening?

Would they care even if it were a completely different address on a sticker over the top?  I thought the service Royal Mail provide is delivering something to the address written on it when it is passed into the postal system.  This doesn't seem to me to be RM's problem.

But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,

The key seems to be getting the Buyer to supply a copy of the proof of posting and hopefully (as the OP said) it will show the house number and post code on there. If the Buyer is simply ignoring requests for this, is it possible to ask Royal Mail what address relates to the tracking number?

Yes I don’t think it’s royal mails problem although postcode would not likely correspond to number on my street. Yes they key is to get receipt from buyer but scammers arnt going to show this . Answering above person - ebay send a label to buyer that’s prepaid with sellers address on . It would be easy to edit it or tamper with it ( therefore making it looked like it’s been delivered)

I spoke to ebay about it several times but after a few weeks I just wasn't getting anywhere and was basically banging my head against a brick wall.  Ebay refused to change their decision.

The scammer also had very low feedback, less than 15 and they had been a member on ebay for a few months.  Ebay felt he was more believable than me with over 1,000 positives, zero negatives and a member for over 10 years.  It has certainly opened my eyes up to how
non-existent ebay seller protection actually is and to never sell anything of high value.

I am seriously thinking about packing in ebay, because it has major flaws.

That's exactly my feelings, I'll continue to use it to buy items, but I won't be selling anything.
It's a real shame, it could be so good.

I found what he did!! It is a scam ! I went on social media today and asked if anyone in my road had a tracked parcel of anything they didn’t order and sure enough a lady replied and sent me a photo of the parcel in which are two small rolls of sellotape and he has altered the label to just my initials and changed one number in my address as I have 3 numbers but we have same postcode . And she’s had it delivered so it shows as me receiving the iPad. What an evil person!

ive already responded to dispute as my time was up To refund and he could have just gone for refund - I said that I have a problem with buyer but didn’t have this new info at the time but explained situation . what’s the bets ebay side with the scammer?

It all depends how proactive you are, you need to phone eBay or use live chat and push and push them to understand what has happened. Have a picture of the label to hand that you can send them, as well as photos of what was in parcel.
