I have been at work as normal throughout this entire period; normal petrol costs, wear & tear on the car; normal insurance; time taken for commute..... meanwhile, I’m becoming increasingly irked by hearing from friends and colleagues who have been at home telling me gleefully how much they’ve saved on fuel, insurance breaks, extra time to do household activities, etc, and now they may be able to claim a tax rebate too!! TO THOSE WHO HAVE  IT SHALL BE GIVEN is the phrase that comes to mind - this is actually really unfair!!! What do others think? 😡😡😡
IMHO, if MPs can get £10k to set up a home office when they've probably already got one, £1.20 per week for us is a drop in the ocean.

MPs weren't just handed £10k in cash.  It was based on receipted expenses, not just for themselves but also their staff.  Many employers across both the private and public sectors purchased their staff additional equipment to use when they started working from home.
  • Does this cover teaching assistants who worked from home when schools were only open for some children? Would it also cover someone required to work from home whilst self isolating at home?

If you wish to claim the full tax relief from when lockdown started on 23/03/2020, as Martin suggests is possible, if you do Self Assessment, you can't use the Microsite :-(

    - Can you still use the Postal P87 form, or do you have to do it via Self Assessment retrospectively?

    - How can you claim the full 2020/21 tax relief (52x£6=£312), plus the smidgen of lockdown 2019/20 from 23/03/2020-05/04/2020 (2x£4=£8)? Is it two claims - one for each tax year? Or can the smidgen bit be somehow included into the 2020/21 claim, like Martin implies can be done on the Microsite?

    - Where on the Self Assessmen
t online form is this to be input?

    - Will doing it via Self Assessment still be the unquestioned blanket claim like those able to claim through the Microsite?

    - Is a part time worker still able to make a full claim of £6/wk or does it need to be proportional to their part-time hours?

    - Are both working adults in the same household able to both claim?  Same bills....!?!

    - For those able to use the Microsite, if you are to claim, as Martin suggests is feasible, putting in lockdown 23/03/2020 as the start date, what amount do you end up writing in the "Amount paid by you" box - is it £312+£8=£320, or does it split it into the two tax years. Martin's blog bit doesn't fully explain...

Really hoping the above gets answered / updated in the Blog. Thx

  • I'm currently working an a box room at home and don't have enough room for all the work IT equipment personal computer. I have to move monitors about to do certain tasks. If I converted part of my garage into a work office, would I be able to claim any TAX relief on the conversion costs?
  • Would my son be able to claim tax relief from March to September when he was working from home.  He is now at uni.

I’ve been working from home on and off since March, however, not forced to and was given the option.

Am I still eligible to claim?
  • So how exactly does it work if I've only just put a claim in, but I've been working from home since March 20th?
I'm still not super clear on how this all works in terms of backpay. Bit slow when it comes to this stuff!
  • I was planning to reclaim tax from a PPI payout I received earlier this year. Is the working from home claim something that is completely separate?
Can / should these be combined??
  • I have to use self-assessment due to child benefit high income charge and had to work from home from 23rd March until I was furloughed in April (after the new tax year started). Would I be right in saying that I apply £12 (3 weeks x £4) in my 2019-20 self assessment and then claim the full £312 in the 2020-21 self assessment next year? If so, presumably this goes in the 'other expenses not reimbursed' section.
