  • I’m currently on maternity leave. I worked from home from 17/03 to 10/07. Can I still claim for the tax relief for that time?
  • I've just submitted my claim and it was even easier than Martin suggests in the blog.  It even suggests the date of 23/3/2020 for you.  It starts by asking if you're claiming due to covid.  Easiest ever to do !!
  • I think I've made a mistake claiming the Tax Relief thing, which would mean contacting HMRC to cancel the Tax Code change before it happens. Would someone be able to confirm so I can get onto that if so?
Outline of the situation as I interpret it; I've been working from home since the end of April, all other requirements seemingly met. In terms of costs, my arrangement is that I live with my parents and give them £500 board a month. They have been asking about when I'll be reimbursed for costs since while it doesn't affect their heating cost (mum is always in so whatever heating she would have on is what I adapt to, I never even use the radiator in my room anymore due to health issues), it has affected their electricity bill as I've had to had a computer delivered to carry out my job on a 37.5 hour per week basis. They're the tenants of the property and the named bill payers.
  • I’m a service engineer so no office and visit customer sites. but when Covid struck had no work but had training course etc online so worked from home   I don’t get tax relief normally on my home office but does this mean I can claim now and maybe forever more?
  • Additional info if it's needed at all: Neither of my parents could claim Tax Relief themselves, mum's a carer so is at home anyway, dad is a healthcare worker who has not had to work from home.
  • I’m retired and on a pension and volunteer and I’ve been asked if I will now work from home answering queries. I know it’s for people who are working but do you think I would be able to claim the £6 a week off my tax?

No, you can't claim anything, since it is a relief against the tax you pay on employment income.  The HMRC manual also specifically refers to "employees".
  • In Martins post he mentions claiming tax relief the purchase of home office equipment, but there is no more detail about this. Has anyone claimed tax relief on the purchase of furniture (desk and chair) used as now required to work from home?

I can't seem to find this new "microsite" the link takes me to the normal claiming tax back form with all the questions. I also don't want to mess up my current tax expenses I claim for uniform. The WFH job I'm trying to claim for is a separate job so do I put that i already claim for expenses or not? Can anyone help please?
  • My son has tried to claim using the government web site. He was asked to provide proof of identity. He has a current driving license which was ok but when he input his passport details he was told it was 3 months out of date. The only other option was to provide his credit card details. Since he has never had a credit card that left him high and dry. What else can he do to make a claim?
