Kale - I put the stalks straight into the freezer then use them in soup, chopped up. Same with cauli leaves and the thick stem in cabbage leaves if you aren’t using it with your cooked cabbage.

We often finely chop the unwanted leaves and stalks of vegetables to add to stir-fries.

  • I love my own pickling and fermenting @rtandon27 - currently on a kimchi making kick and have another batch fermenting away on my kitchen worktop

Speaking of kimchi, we're having a korean dish called jjajangmyeon for dinner tonight - basically pork cooked in black bean paste with noodles and of course kimchi on the side.  Will be enough to make about 4 portions so that's a dinner for next week already sorted.

That's been most of my meals for the past few weeks - hence needing to sort out the freezer because there's so many tubs of stuff in there.  Tomorrow night is a bolognese gnocchi bake - the bolognese was from about a month ago so it's a nice easy dinner with not a lot of effort.

Oh Ruby - My mouth is watering!   I just love jjajangmyeon, in fact most Korean food - though I'm quite glad some of the more unusual ingredients are not easy to come by in the UK

Before these strange times started in March, we would eat Korean food bi-weekly right after my physio appointment.  The first time I ordered Jjigae (spicy seafood stew) with my lunch, the lovely owner insisted I would not like it.  I assured her I'd had it before & loved it and she was highly amused when I ate the whole bowl!  I love when there is something traditional on a menu and I get told I won't like it - those words are almost a challenge to taste it and like it just out of spite

I've spent part of the morning putting away sausages, pork, turkey & chicken into the freezer for our winter stores.  As I worked late yesterday, there was not the slightest bit of guilt at using part of the morning for home tasks!  Lunch today will be made from the rest of the corned beef lurking in the fridge, along with some cucumber & tiny tomatoes from the veg box that arrived this morning.  We also received a full kg of orange carrots, so I can see they will feature heavily over the next little while!

Yay for another Korean food lover.  I've been obsessed since we went to Seoul for a wedding last year and my friend from there lives about a 5 minute walk from an H Mart so every time I see her, I make sure to pop in and stock up on ingredients.  Hoping to try and make some Jjigae next week possibly as it's perfect for this weather, but not sure DH will enjoy it (he's a bit funny with seafood things sometimes!)

...DH is reluctant to try anything involving fish that is not battered and fried it is a complete hole in my culinary knowledge...
SL, what a giggle, this is my OH to a tee!!!  When we go for Korean food he usually has Katsu chicken (battered & fried) along with pajeon (egg pancake with scallions) and plain fried noodles that reminds him of chinese flavoured pot noodle.  It's closest to what he considers English comfort food & he's always sure to 'wash it down' with a beer.  He always gets offered a taste of my slightly more exotic fare, but most often declines.  However he has even learned the names of everything I like & can order for both of us in keeping with his old-fashioned sensibilities.

Our use it up breakfast this morning consisted of leftover sliced roast chicken in a wrap with some mixed green from the veg box and a smear of vegan mayo to hold it all together.  Plans for the leftover roast veg from earlier this week include potato/parsnip cakes & a carrot soup with ginger that will of course be a strange shade of purple instead of orange!

  • Hello!
Hope you don't mind me dropping in. I love reading through this thread for ideas but this is the first time I've actually posted, as I've ended up with a large crate of fruit and veg and no idea what to do with it. I've got a few ideas in mind but I'm very new to cooking, so would be very grateful for any input! I have:

Lots of potatoes, both red and white
    Some sprouts
    A head of broccoli
    A green cabbage
    10 medium tomatoes
    5 large onions
    10 carrots
    A large leek
    A pack of celery
    A swede
    A pack of 6 beetroots
    A bunch of spring onion
    A cucumber
    A punnet of mushrooms
    Oranges
    Pears
    Apples
    A Pineapple

I've got most cupboard staples in, and will be nipping to Aldi later on for a chicken and anything else I may need. There's two adults to feed, no allergies or aversions. What would you lovely lot suggest?
