Suffolk_lass said:DH made dinner but in so doing, he elected to cook all the steaks, not just two. So now when DS comes I am a steak short so will have to do stir fry instead of grilled steaks. Or something completely different as there are two in the freezer. I don't know either (what he was thinking or what planet he resides on!)Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

A sliced cook steak is great on a salad or, if it was a big one, in a crusty roll with mustard!
Today's dinner is again from the freezer and fridge - a duck breast; roast potatoes, roasted carrots & peppers (which need using up as they are a week old and getting wrinkly); roasted onions from a big sack; courgettes from the garden, frozen green beans & peas.

SL - I hear you both on the grumpiness of recipes that don't work & the OH being on another planet!
We had a cooking adventure this morning attempting to make Taiwanese JianBiang pancakes - cue lots of angry words while I attempted to explain potato & corn starch properties to OH while he attempted to cook the pancake - LOL - first go was a disaster! - OH had used double the amount of flour and it did not cook properly. We reread the recipe & made some changes and made a second one with runnier batter! Turned out a bit better, but only after reading recipe a third time did we discover each recipe was for two pancakes!!! SIGH - at least it's a cheap meal so I don't feel so bad about the wasted ingredients!. We did have fun & managed to use up 1/2 a huge head of pakchoi. Next time round he will have to go in another room & be patient (impossible) while I find all the ingredients & lay them out & give the recipe a good read through!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Thanks guys. I love the fact I am not alone on this one. Using it up isn't the issue, lots of options, it is the fact I promised DS Steak and now there are only two. Guess who will have eggs and pretend they didn't want any (clue, it isn't DH!)?Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £10,020.92 out of £6000 after September

Did DH eat the extra steak he cooked without thinking? If so then I think he should be the one to go without not you! Seems very unfair if you have to go without but I know what it's like, it's always going to be you!

I did post this on the slow cooker thread this morning but it is a ‘reverse meal planning‘ subject. I had a chicken carcass ( cooked 2 days ago), a couple of carrots and a leek that needed using up. I added an onion, 2 sticks of celery, the jelly from the roast chicken (poured into a mug, put in fridge then fat skimmed) and a packet of Asda broth mix (80p). It will make approx 8 good portions of chicken and veg broth for just over a £1.

greenbee said:@rtandon27 - roast your beetroot when it arrives and then it's ready to use when you want it, but less messy than boiling it (if it's raw).2024 Fashion on the Ration - 10/66 coupons used

mmm - beetroot & chocolate - sounds like an interesting combination! - not to different from a carrot cake or zucchini bread - may have to do a recipe trawl and keep a recipe on hand!
Dinner this evening was roast pork & roast potatoes with honey roasted purple & orange carrots. Simple meal made by yours truly - It's a once weekly event & I lapped up the praise! - Top tip - never tell your OH just how easy Sunday roast is 🤣🤣🤣4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Absolutely agree @rtandon27! A roast is probably the easiest meal apart from something you can prep and chuck in the SC!

Beans on toast for breakfast, used the crust off the end of the loaf as everyone else seems to think crusts are the devil. I might skip lunch now or just have a snack and then dinner tonight is sweet potato, red pepper and pineapple stew with rice. I might throw the half can of coconut milk I have in the fridge into the stew too as it needs using up.
