natlie said:...Lunch today is free Pret sandwiches rescued from the OLIO app...
Our reverse planning last night was to use up tortellini from the fridge, mushroom sauce from the freezer & mushrooms & peppery greens from the veg box! Our favourite meatless Monday meal!
We also had bargain pre-cut fruit & cheese (for afters) which came with the grocery delivery yesterday - the closest thing we've had to a yellow sticker since mid-March! I'm very amused at how pleased OH was with the little treat as we have fruit and cheese in the house - just not pre-cut!🤣🤣🤣4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! So many lovely ideas for 'use up eat up' on here! I usually make soup, chilli would make a nice change .
Yesterday I had so many tag ends of veg that needed to be rescued, they were turned into a very big pot of yes soup, shrivelled carrots, bolted chicory,LO roasted peppers, small cauliflower, cabbage leaves, celery and a sprouting onion.
I found chicken stock in the freezer, however there were some big bits of chicken in it which became curry with the very dried out mushrooms.
All of this was shared with DD who lives nearby,so nothing wasted!

Tonight OH has made himself and the children one of their favourite dishes, which is one of the few meals I don't eat as it makes me unwell. OH was reluctant to make it as he was worried about what I would eat, I had a rummage in the fridge and I'm combining some vegetable curry (only 1 portion left from yesterday) added a tiny portion of cooked turkey served with rice both out of the freezer, quick, easy, delicious and preventing wasteFashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

I love the idea of community food rescue (a bit like Thunderbirds without the rockets... or the puppets... or the uniform). Note to self - Stop Woman!!
The sausages we planned to have were beyond use and then this morning I threw nearly half a cucumber away. I feel really as though this recognises that I have lost the plot this week. We ended up with chips, egg and beans last night - thank goodness for store-cupboards. But it did not help with the salad mountain. We are going away tomorrow morning in our van for the weekend and I will only be taking bread, potatoes (when I have dug some) salad, meat fruit and yogurt so no swerving. The BBQ means we have bought more meat than normal (including some stuff for our Son who will be house, garden and cat sitting).Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Got a beef stew out of the freezer yesterday for last night's dinner and decided there was almost but not quite enough for a dinner and lunch for both of us so added a tin of white kidney beans (at least that was what the label said!) they were actually canellini beans so we had that last night with some mash and peas and there is enough LO for lunch today. Really pleased with that as saves the burger, onions & buns we were going to have so they are still in the freezer.
Currently cooking a bit slow cooker full of savoury mince. Will be using the SC again tomorrow to make a big veggie chilli. All will be portioned for the freezer although will keep out one portion of savoury mince to use as the base of a cottage pie for dinner tomorrow night.
Doing a pork roast for dinner today. LO's will be sliced and frozen for further meals. It's a good sized leg joint so think there will probably be enough for another 3 meals for 2 as LOs so the basis of 3 more roast dinners for the future.
These bases will fill a big hole in the chest freezer!

I have come over from a suggestion from suffolk_lass on the grocery challenge thread.
I kind of already do this, but i will try and pop in from time for ideas and input.
Last night i came home from work with peas, sausage rolls, chinese veg and baby new potatoes; which i am now squeezing into the meal plan. Potatoes, peas etc will be used tonight ....i cant have the sausage rolls (due to the pastry); but i will use an alternative with gravy and other veg. In fact,i just remembered i bought savoy cabbage so will use that.
Tomorrow we will incorporate the chinese veg, as we were going to have spicy noodles anyway, so can be thrown in that.
Somebody (not sure if on here) recommended an app that gives you recipe ideas from what is in your kitchen. I think its mainly plant based/vegan; but it does have recipes with meat/fish in also (i think). It is called Plant Jammer

Dinner last night was fish burgers & chips from the freezer with buns from the bi-weekly shop & Caesar salad from veg box ingredients. Afters some bargain posh fruit yogurt that came with our shop. So a bit of forward & reverse planning for that meal!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Husband's third attempt at burgers was a failure. Turns out he thought he'd speed up using the stick blender to chop up the onions. It was all cooked but mushy
Tonight it's spagless spag bog with courgetti cos we have loads of mince in the freezer and lots of courgettes.

I meal plan all out dinners but not our lunches and puddings at dinner time and they can sometimes be a bit samey. Today I got a magic bag from our bakers on the Too Good to Go App, we've used it before but not for ages. The littles were pretty impressed with iced cakes with sprinkles for pudding (DD counted every single sprinkle she ate!) and there are enough sandwiches and pasta salad to do the five of us and my Mum and Dad for lunch tomorrow. I may have to fight DS1 for the Tuna baguette but I'll probably let him win !
We don't live close enough for much else to pop up but I've checked for my Father in law who lives in York and he's got Morrisons, his local butcher and a couple of chinese restaurants, so I've got him to download the app, it will be really helpful to him (as MIL died in April) and it will save lots of waste too.2025 Decluttering Campaign Mrs SD –The joy of decluttering 45.5/104⭐️
