I am about to start working away through the week and commuting home for a couple of weekends a month.  I really don't want to waste and food so am going to be asking many questions on here as to what I can freeze.  First question... spring, red and brown onions, can I chop them and put them in the freezer?

Red and brown onions can be stored for several weeks, even months if kept cold and airy. However, if chopped and frozen they are best used afterwards in cooking, I would imagine spring onions are the same but I don't tend to use them.

Hope everyone had a good Christmas

Yes, Spring Onions freeze well (whole, like chillies here, I chop them to make the braised lettuce dish, with peas, stock and cream)

I hadn't thought to freeze them whole, thanks.

I think I can get a vibe of that sort of humour zafiro - I come from a family where we tend to thrive on black humour - it's a rare situation where Mum and I can't find at least something funny in it, something which we've been really grateful for over the years, but yes, it can come across as a bit odd to others! Sorry to hear your OH's neck isn't quite behaving itself - fingers crossed the next scan will show far better healing. I bet he's hugely glad not to have to wear the frame so much though!

It's going to be reverse planning full steam ahead here too for this month I think. The freezers are well stocked - two double portions of the ham got frozen, and we have various different lots of turkey frozen too - including several which will give us tasty "christmas dinners" to look forwards to! I've got breadcrumbs frozen too in good quantity so will probably even make some more bread sauce at some stage - I even found my original recipe I used to use the other day so might try a batch using that!

Tonight is stir fry using a pack of YS'd cooked chicken bought yesterday, and tomorrow will be char sui marinated pork steaks with some form of veg.

To my shame I had to bin a load of tatties which had simply gone too far with sprouting - I need to work out why they seem to go so fast as they are stored in the dark so it's not entirely logical. Can't even cut our losses and plant them at the moment as we're starting to plan for a house move!

    HNY all!

Happy new year all.  Christmas leftovers are currently on their last legs, with the turkey finally used up yesterday and the gammon will be gone by the end of the week.

Yesterday I took all the leftover carrots from Christmas week and made a very nice batch of carrot and coriander soup that will do most of my lunches for the week.  Dinner tonight is kimchi friend rice for me as I need to start making headway in the last jar from the last batch I made a few months ago - it's at the lovely sour ripeness but if it sticks around any longer it may be too sour.  Will chuck in some of the leftover gammon as well for some protein and top with a fried egg.  DH will probably have soup and a sandwich as he usually does on Tuesdays.

Last of the Christmas veg plus some chickpeas have been turned into 6 portions of vegetable curry.  4 portions into the freezer and 2 portions left in the fridge for dinner tonight.

Have got some lamb chops out of the freezer for dinner tomorrow night.

Stir fry - the pack of reduced chicken pieces we got last night for 75p, plus used up plenty of veg, including….drum roll please… finishing one of the cabbages - yay! 😆
