The salad needing using up, and with my surfeit of asparagus, I thought I’de better start eating it!
I have the asparagus soup that I finished making yesterday to have for lunch, and there’s enough for a meal tomorrow as well, plus more asparagus tips to have at some point. 😁
I was very disappointed not to get the ‘promised’ purslane in my veg box this week. I had been so looking forward to that.
I have so much veg in the fridge now, that I have decided not to have a veg box this coming week, especially as the fixed contents only duplicate what I already have, or are things I won’t miss like pots and carrots and beetroot! 😁
They will still be delivering other things, though, like my weekly Prosecco! And more asparagus! 😂 Plus I might finally get some (plain) flour!Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Especially as for the first few weeks I couldn’t get any Supermarket delivery at all, so couldn’t get my favourite beer!
I’m not really supposed to drink wine, (grape products), but do allow myself the odd glass of Prosecco on special occasions. 😁😁😁
I reckoned that dealing with a potentially deadly virus was quite a special occasion! 😂😂

Did my first 'real' cooking in over a week, as OH has been on liquids & I've been finishing up bits of this and that with egg noodles or microwave rice - all from the stores - fridge, freezer & veg box.
Used up three massive leeks, a large red onion, 4 large potatoes, some garlic & a litre of bone broth from the freezer to make a lovely creamy leek & potato soup which was thick enough to be filling but liquid enough for OH. So tasty for a cold & blustery day.
I forsee several soups for this week - 'cream' of this & that to use up the copious amounts of potatoes we seem to have collected from the veg boxes. Good idea to skip a week of veg Pyxis - we also have enough other bits in our order to make up the minimum and it would give us a chance to do something with the carrots, potatoes & beets which have been arriving every week!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Well, I’ve been a silly soup billy.
When I ate my second lot of asparagus soup yesterday, it didn’t seem to taste as nice as the first meal of it I had.
Hours later, I realised that it was because I had forgotten to put the creme fraiche into it!
Derr!
Shan’t make that mistake with the last lot, which I shall now have for breakfast! 😄(I just lurve spiders!)

I am going foraging for elderflowers this morning. I have lots of sugar in stock from my big trip (annual) to the C&C at Lakeside with my friend who is a member there and I am going to make cordial. A neighbour is getting the lemons and I have citric acid and campden tablets in the cupboard. I make the Mary Berry recipe from this clip. So easy and the addition of campden tablets (which Wilkinsons, Boots and Wilkos all sell) means it keeps for a year, if it lasts that long. I found a small bottle last month from last year and it was still lovely.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

We had a roast chicken yesterday and it was really bland. Originally we were just going to have cold chicken, chips & beans but because it was so bland I've decided I'm going to make it into a tagine and serve it with some herby couscous using herbs from the garden to give it a bit of flavour.

My sage bush has never looked so good as it does this year
I got a huge cauliflower yesterday, I mean huge, we barely ate a quarter of it yesterday. I was going to make cauliflower cheese tonight but Mr S has asked if we can have sweet and sour chicken, so I shall braise it in oyster sauce as a side dish. It comes out looking like a brain but tastes lovely6 -
Defrosted a chicken breast that was left over from our last roast dinner - had some sliced on the very last bagel & OH had some chopped in his cream of mushroom soup - he's slowly progressing from a fully liquid diet to an easy to digest diet - I forsee our meals being bland for at least a week!
Am off to do a search for non-dairy beet soup - we have several beets languishing from our last few veg boxes...4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!!
