To be honest, the £1100 is still a lot more than the SSP and much better than losing your job because your employer can't pay you and having to claim benefit.

I hope those people complaining that the government giving them £1100 to "hibernate" are also not the same people that slag those unfortunate enough to be on benefit off for being benefits scroungers. Also, I hope those people also don't hate it when the government try to increase the rate of taxation slightly later or when a socialist party proposes in their manifesto that the tax will likely increase for those on higher pay.

This crisis will be a eye open for most of the middle class in this country that the benefit system is not really too generous (apart from those who abuse the system).
  • After deductions I will have £200 a month. And thanks for asking but no I don’t have any savings because all of my salary covers a mortgage, childcare and bills as I get no help from anyone. I have never claimed benefits.
I chose this career purely because of the earning potential. Im so sorry that I have a job that involves commission and that I can earn potentially more than others.  I have worked everyday of my life, supported myself and paid my taxes so why am I not entitled to some help. Incidentally if I calculate what I will receive after deductions versus my hourly week which part time is still over 50 hours it will be below minimum wage.
i am not middle class FYI but since when did being comfortable with a job and security become a swear word???

No one is being fair if they judge you.
However, you don't fall in a category to receive extra help. You might need to accept you will be on £50 per week for your food shop during this short-term. It's nail-bitingly tough. No one is under any illusions that we aren't all suffering.

However, you aren't likely to get may crying eyes coming your way if you fall back on fair minimum pay.

It's better than nothing. Get a credit card for a few months. You earn more than most people in this country. Start saving when you get back to work.
  • I’m not looking for sympathy. I’m worried that I cannot pay my mortgage. my mortgage provider is currently reviewing a mortgage break. I don’t think I will get it though as it has just been changed recently and the term is already maxed out.

The job retention scheme is not to protect employees, it is meant to protect jobs, although granted I am not sure how well it is doing at that.

    I will not be ‘hibernating’
you have made a lot of assumptions about me and my life. Please tell me How £50 a week will pay a mortgage, bills and feed two people indefinitely?
Anyway i’d better go and bake some macaroons and start preparing for my daughters piano recital in the morning for the street..... lifting those spirits (in a social distancing acceptable way of course) in case you haven’t realised I’m being sarcastic.

Again I'll ask you why should I and other low paid pay you more than I earn for you and your mortgage and your child when I earn less then a third of what you do?

What I mean by hibernate is you won't be carrying out any work for your company. I haven't assume anything about you, maybe you should read my statement carefully and reason it out to understand what was written.  I don't care about your sarcasm.

£1093 a month is not the same as £50 a week. You can't ignore most of what the government will be giving you and then make statement like "£50 a week won't pay mortgage etc.".  Your mortgage company will most likely allow payment holiday. if you are self employed, at that salary/profit you won't even be entitled to anything - I will understand if those people are complaining.

After this over, try and have some emergency savings. What the government is giving you is more than generous and stop complaining.

How are you getting these figures, what are the  £900 essential overheads (more important than mortgage or food payments) that leave you with only £200??
