Furlough is a farce!!

Just to add to this, my company has stated that we cannot seek alternative or additional employment during furlough. This is irrelevant anyway as I am a single parent and I have no one to look after my child.0

It's meant to cover your basic wage, nothing more - who knows what commission would have been if you were working.
Ask for a mortgage payment holiday, cut down un-necessary expenses and I'm sure you can make it work; we're all in the same boat.1 -
@lhsmithy1973 the problem is that this is not a fair situation.
If you have an OTE income you need to realise it is not guaranteed and if a crisis strikes then you are susceptible.
I really hope that for your case your record of earnings will give you protection under the scheme but the most fair thing we can really expect is that everyone gets as close to a NMW as possible in this period (which we hope will be short anyway).
Myself, I have to keep working under adverse conditions for the same money. I will pay the same tax and for the next few years probably pay more tax to offset this economic bailout that gives help to other people.
I would not be happy if that money was given out more generously to the people that earn more, especially if their income was subject to market volatility and risk that those people should prepare, or insure themselves against.
Plain and simple - that would not be fair for you to get any more than what you need to survive this crisis.2 -
I assume the Government excluded commissions because they are based on results that cannot be earned while on furlough. If an employee on a standard monthly wage just sits doing nothing all month because their employer hasn't anything it needs them to do, they would still get the same pay because that is their contractual entitlement. Someone on basic pay and commission who did nothing all month would only get their basic pay. If you are furloughed, all your employer would be contractually liable to pay would be your basic pay, so that is all the employer gets refunded (up to 80% or £2,500 a month). If they would be contractually liable to pay you commission for doing nothing, it isn't commission. I would point out that you might be blaming (at least in part) the wrong person though. Your employer chose to pay you in this manner, and you chose to accept it. It's a bit like the company directors who took dividends instead of salary, and now find they are disadvantaged in much the same way as you.0

£1100 per month for doing nothing isn't that bad is it??0

It is not meant to be fair. On the other hand why is it fair the taxpayers pay your salary?2

Where are your savings guys? 40k - 55k is good money to be on and there should be a rainy day fund from it surely? Do you expect taxpayers like myself on less than 20k/year to fund you to a hIgher level than I'm earning?5

I will get £1093 which then after tax that also won’t be adjusted and deductions for company car which I’m told I can’t hand back and pension I will have £200 a month to live on. I feel that the tone directed towards this is bizarre. Why are we any different to the self employed. We can prove our earnings through HMRC. I don’t know how I am going to pay my mortgage never mind feed my child.3

What about folk who work through their lunch hour. And there is them that think home working allows them to do housekeeping.. where does it stop
My 16k job on 8 hours, 5 days a week
£7.69
7 hours, 5 days a week
£8.79
Only difference is I'm not furloughed and in addition have a contract of employment which prevents a second job.
I'm sure a lot of people have a sales element in their role which bears no commission.1
