Nine times out of ten these tickets are scams, so consider complaining to your MP, it can cause the scammer extra costs and work, and has been known to get the charge cancelled.
Parliament is well aware of the MO of these private parking companies, many of whom are former clampers, and on 15th March 2019 a Bill was enacted to curb the excesses of these shysters. Codes of Practice are being drawn up, an independent appeals service will be set up, and access to the DVLA's date base more rigorously policed, persistent offenders denied access to the DVLA database and unable to operate.
Hopefully, when life gets back to normal, it will become impossible for those scammers who are left to continue their vile trade, but until this is done you should still complain to your MP, citing the new legislation.

Just as the clampers were finally closed down, so hopefully will many of these Private Parking Companies.

Hi, just piggy backing this thread and hoping someone can help. Yesterday I received some post from our previous address which included a parking fine from G24 from December, and also a subsequent follow up letter increasing the charge as we had not been in touch within the initial 28 day payment period. We obviously forgot to change the address on the V5c (logbook) for the car when we moved but that has since been rectified, but this is why it went to the old address. In regards the parking fine, there is always a possibility we forgot to pay (although unlikely) but being so far back we cannot remember to be honest. I haven't got any 'evidence' as such in terms of a payment as we imagine we would've paid in cash as the parking charge was so small. Also checking with the complex owners the ANPR is believed to have been working on the day (taking transactions), no CCTV is available and they have just brushed us off to take it up with G24.
The parking time was 59 minutes, so parking charge would have been £1 looking at the tariffs, the initial charge came through at £100 (reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days – which we obviously missed as it was sent to the incorrect address). The follow up letter from a debt collector has increased the charge to £160!
Next step - should i take it up with G24 and just ignore debt collectors letter? Should i ignore full stop? What's the likelehood we'd be asked to go to small claims court?
Appreciate there's a lot of similar posts but thought i would comment as my circumstances are slightly different with the wrong address situation. Any advice welcome.
