Tesco Online Grocery Shopping - USELESS!

Wife and I are both registered on the government "extremely vulnerable" website and confined to our property for at least the next 12 weeks. No home delivery slots available to our area until after 19 April (which ATM is as far ahead as they show availability). Tried calling both the contact numbers to ask for info and help, selected option 2 "help with an order you wish to place or delivery slots", get a recorded message then line goes dead, so no way to speak to them, no email address, pathetic! We've used Tesco as our main grocery shop for decades, but as Sainsburys (and Waitrose) are/will be using the gov database to provide delivery slots to the extremely vulnerable, sounds like time we took our business elsewhere!

According to the OP, because they are extremely vulnerable?

Whether that is the case or not, I don’t think Tesco have had a history of prioritising the vulnerable.

Perhaps Tesco are going through a particularly busy pressured time.

Can't imagine why that might be.

It's not just Tesco, Sainsbury's have paused new registrations so no joy there, at least Waitrose give an email address for CS so, although ATM you have to be on their vulnerable list (i.e. have a MyWaitrose card and be over 70, we just miss out on the age part) they include a link to the gov.uk/coronavirus-extremely-vulnerable website so you can register if you qualify (which I did this afternoon, but not via their website as a friend had already sent me the link), and once their system is up and running you'll be on the list to be offered a priority delivery slot, and you have a way to ask a question.

Blackbeard, you are correct, we have a link to our village hub, but ATM there are others who need help more than we currently do. Thankyou for positive assistance, unlike the troll who decided to have a go. As I've seen elsewhere, this pandemic is bringing out the best in a lot of people, but unfortunately there are a few where it's doing the opposite.

Maybe all the slots  were already booked for the  period ahead before the announcement about the vulenrable list. They only have a finite number of drivers who can only do so many deliveries in a day.
They have suspended new registrations , as have other supermarkets, due to demand.
So Sainsbury's and  Waitrose have no slots either.

There are many people on the vulnerable list. Asthma is very common. Overweight people can be on the list, as well as elderly, those who have the flu jab, etc etc

the slots may well have been taken by vulnerable people already.

The list has changed and the criteria you mentioned is not on the 'extremely vulnerable' list anymore. To get priority for shopping etc as the OP mentions, it is for conditions such as cancers and transplants etc.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

Thank you for the update! However I still think there will be many who still qualify, plus as stated this is quite new so there will be pre existing orders that they can’t just cancel. I highly suggest speaking to your local council (particularly town or parish councils if you have one) as where I live all the parish and town councils have something set up, depending on their level of volunteers.

There’s approximately 1.5 million people in the ‘shielded’ group who qualify but so far only Sainsbury and Waitrose are contacting people on the database

Tesco have announced today that they will also be using the gov database to identify extremely vulnerable clients - as well as increasing the number of delivery slots massivly. No sign of it yet, wife and I are both registered on that database, but no Tesco home delivery or click and collect slot until after 20th April.
