Length of Shutdown - Crystal ball stuff, but just wondered what people thought?

A real emotional rollercoaster. Tempted to throw the towel in, as we don't have to sell, but we'd like to. Perhaps I'll feel better in a few days.
I just wondered what people thought the length of the delay might be? I appreciate that even the politicians don't really know, so really just wanted to see what opinions were on this. To begin, I'd be estimating 3-6 weeks assuming the number of virus cases continues not to 'rise sharply' as expected. If that happens, I'd be amazed if they'd voluntarily stall the housing market much longer than 3-6 weeks. Obviously if the epidemic gets worse, then there's no reason to think that it won't extend beyond 12 weeks.
As I say, nobody knows, I just wondered what you all thought.3 -
I would treat any guesses from organisations as just being whatever suits them to assume as an initial minimum lockdown period, no countries have become un-locked-down yet (though some slight relaxations in Wuhan). If NHS England are effectively saying that restricting UK deaths to 20,000 would be a decent target, and even Italy isn't at 10,000 deaths yet, I think we're in this for a good while yet.4

What specifically do you think will be "totally different"?For what it's worth, I think (apart from higher taxes) this time next year we'll all be carrying on pretty much how we all were this time last year...Every generation blames the one before...

Luckily one chap had a can of beer which we passed around - most people seemed to thing if it lasted more than a week there'd be a march organised like the one against the war a few years back, so you should be able to move soon after that!
I know it's not a laughing matter, but the lack of humour on this forum staggers me sometimes.9 -

I know it's not a laughing matter, but the lack of humour on this forum staggers me sometimes. It's a long time since most people shared fags, except those with additional ingredients!A little dark humour in the forum does no harm; it's a very British response to adversity. As for what will change in future, I doubt it will be human nature, but with the need to claw back losses and in the light of experiences, I wouldn't be surprised to see working from home and video conferencing becoming more common.
