My take on when the PTB think it will be basically over/return to Normal time has come from the direction of two Councils at the same sort of timescale in both their minds.

When it came from the little local Council I now have seems to be thinking "by the end of July" I ignored it/put it down to wishful thinking. But I'm on the mailing list for my old City Council and I read today's email from them and they are requesting people to ask their opinion about anything scheduled up to end July. Hmmm...now I'm listening - if that's what my old city council seems to think and my new little council seems to think.

Wonder what councils across the country generally seem to be expecting? Anyone else on a city council mailing list had anything through with wording that seems to indicate their expectations are set at "by the end of July"?

I'd guess September until things calm down.
I agree might be September, but as Dr. Fauci* said we might get another wave come the Fall.
I think people are not realizing that post corona virus, it's going to be a totally different world in every form - one of which will be financially.
Some of us won't like it, but we won't have any choice - this is going to be the new normal

Went to the supermarket today and they were controlling how many people could go in at a time, so while we waited a bunch of us got together, shared a fag, and discussed how long the infringements to our human rights would last. Luckily one chap had a can of beer which we passed around - most people seemed to thing if it lasted more than a week there'd be a march organised like the one against the war a few years back, so you should be able to move soon after that!
I hope your post is tongue in cheek.  If not you should be pleased that you have a government that cares enough about people to do everything they can to stop the current situation.  My human rights are that I expect not to catch this thing, yours appear to be that you can carry on in a situation that will make it far more likely that you (and all the people near to you) will catch it.  As a smoker your symptoms will be much worse

I went shopping today in the “pensioners” hour.  Sainsbury’s let in about 50 people at first then it was a strict “one out, one in” policy.  We queued up making sure we were 6ft apart. We carried on conversations with total strangers which was nice, no moaning about “human rights”.  Sainsbury’s had plenty of stock including toilet rolls, anti bacterial hand wash and paracetamol.  Thought I’d throw that in for good measure

I don't think they can keep the lockdown going for that long a time because of the effects on people's health (both physical and psychological) and the economy

I've seen suggestions that it will be raised in June and reimposed in November. That, to the very untrained eye,  seems about right. There is also the possibility of lifting in some areas only.

That's what the government want; eventual 60% transmission spread over a period that won't overwhelm our underfunded services. I see Boris has got in early though, just in case. Wise move.

Don't believe what you read on social media. There's some ill informed people in this country who have little more to do than criticise and play politics. Who have never set foot in an ICU within a hospital. Rather than constructively helping others.
Unlike my other remark, that one wasn't flippant. I know I'm old, but I seem to remember an earlier time when Mr Johnson was espousing the idea of herd immunity, or did I dream it? Nothing to do with social media anyway.
As for criticising, I worked in public service for 35 years, and while some of them weren't so bad, I never once felt we had sufficient funds. Apparently, many of those in the NHS still share that concern and a few aren't afraid to express it either.

Most people would prefer to have timely routine operations. Than money spent on equipment, trained staff and facilities that sits idle for decades.
I was referring to the basics, like adequate PPE in the case of NHS workers, not exotic equipment. It's nothing new that public service staff have been expected to get results without the proper tools for the job, or have dipped into their own pockets, relied on fund raising efforts etc rather than deliver a inferior service.

Your human right to spread around a virus that can kill people? I am hoping you are joking on the second one, or had alcohol wipes handy?

Edinburgh council renewed all library books to end of July, and added five further renewals (it is normally three when things are normal) plus they said council tax enforcement is on hold until July/August.

PPE isn't exclusive to the Corona virus. Much of the equipment is used on a routine daily basis. Sourcing supplies is the issue not the money. The USA is currently attempting to procure the number of ventilators that are produced annually on a global basis. Same old America first Trump. Little cohesion between world leaders.

Feeling somewhat battered and bruised today after our sale was halted thanks to the virus and the advice not to proceed. We've been on again, off again for days now. A real emotional rollercoaster. Tempted to throw the towel in, as we don't have to sell, but we'd like to. Perhaps I'll feel better in a few days.

I just wondered what people thought the length of the delay might be? I appreciate that even the politicians don't really know, so really just wanted to see what opinions were on this. To begin, I'd be estimating 3-6 weeks assuming the number of virus cases continues not to 'rise sharply' as expected. If that happens, I'd be amazed if they'd voluntarily stall the housing market much longer than 3-6 weeks. Obviously if the epidemic gets worse, then there's no reason to think that it won't extend beyond 12 weeks.

As I say, nobody knows, I just wondered what you all thought.
Our estate agents "Bridgfords Countrywide Estates" told us Today 28/03/2020 they will be returning to work on the 13th April 2020. That 's the date given to them, from Head office that all Bridgford estate agent shops will be back open.
