TUI refunds thread

  • Me and my partner booked a holiday in January to go to Turkey in September  with TUI, we only paid £50 each £100 in total with the low deposit, we wasn’t aware that the other payment which needs to be paid next month (May) is also part of the deposit, £300 we have to pay then and then the further holiday payment in June. My question is that we do not want to go away this year as what is going on, as we have only paid the low deposit £100 each do we need to pay the other payment in May? We wasn’t aware that the May payment was also part of the deposit

In theory, if you dont pay the rest of the low deposit they can chase you for it. In practice, who knows if they will bother. Up to you to decide if you want to take the chance.

And yes it would be in the terms you agreed to.

I posted the link to the relevant TUI website and the actual wording towards the bottom of page 30.

Not an easy decision. If I knew they were giving refunds to people, then the decision would be much easier. But they have lost public confidence at the moment. Unlike Jet2 who seem to be dealing with things better.
we got our money back eventually albeit around 30 days don't give up the TV news this morning will put pressure on them TUI got 1.8 million loan from EU to cover there costs.
    good luck.

If a booking is flight only, I'm wondering if it's worth raising a section 75 claim (assuming it was over £100 and paid on CC).

I fully expect it would get rejected as TUI are offering vouchers, however in the event they went bust before being able to convert the vouchers to a refund then it may give more leverage with a section 75 claim then (as the bank/CC have indicated the vouchers offered instead of a refund are part of the original transaction).

I don't know if you're allowed to make multiple section 75 claims for the same transaction though?

Milo55, when did you get your email in relation to your refund? I got mine on 21st March but haven’t had it into my bank yet.
I’m glad that you’ve got it sorted 👍
  • This is the 2nd time TUI have cancelled my cruise. Originally due to travel March 2019 then i let them rebook it for March this year. Why shouldn't I get a refund now? I've waited 18 months for this holiday and they've held my money all this time.  The processed it on March 10th but it's  still not in the bank. I'm an NHS worker, aren't they supposed to be supporting us?  To make matters worse they have cancelled a further holiday and that refund was processed 4 weeks ago and yet no sign if it. I'm now due around £5000.  I can't understand how people due to travel this month and May are receiving refunds when many of us have been waiting over 6 weeks.  I have been continually lied to when I ring TUI which is a real issue.

I agree. We have been lied to too, and been given generic meaningless messages via social media. We were promised a refund on the 17th March ( for a holiday  4/4/2020) just over 5 weeks ago now. We were hoping that when the announcement was made last week regarding refunds going forward that the first batch of people who were promised cash refunds in March would start to receive them. But no one I've been in contact with has had anything yet.

TUI in Germany did yes. Irrelevant to here.
  • Will I be able to get a deposit back from TUI? They changed the dates we’re flying on & I’m unable to change my annual leave with work. We don’t fly until August so as it stands we won’t fall into the current time frame with the Corona virus lockdown
