I usually buy spuds in 2kg pack for 69p in Home Bargains. Called in on my way home from work on Monday and while the spuds section seemed to be plentiful, my usual pack were priced at £1.29 !!!
I've also noticed that other stores are moving products around are SELs  missing,   have already had a couple of surprises regarding prices at tills.  Be careful, check what you're  paying.

69p a bag seems too cheap to be an on-going price. This example doesn't seem like its Covid related, just a really low price coming to an end.

I refused to buy a pack of peppers in Tescos as the price was £1.35 compared to 90p a fortnight earlier
The 90p ones are Nightingale Farms (formerly Tesco Value) which are now 95p.  The £1.35 are Tesco own brand.  Different product, different price.

I noticed today that paracetamol is 45p in Home Bargains. I can't remember the exact price from a few weeks back but I'm sure it's a near 100% increase.

I've been buying them at 69p for at least 18months.  Last week they were "down" to 99p.  However, alongside them were some 2kg packs of premium Estima spuds reduced to 20p (full price £1.49).  Short dated but absolutely ok.  Bagged 2 packs, walked away  more than happy.

  • Near enough no offers and everything is highest price it’s been for about two years so our £135 Sainsbury shop is costing £200 now. Feels a lot like profiting. Feel really sorry for those on low incomes who will struggle as a result.

Can MSE do anything to address this?

The flour shortage is due to the millers production line is more catered to produce larger sacks of flour (16-25kg) for supermarket scratch baking etc than the supermarket 1kg bags

Possibly because paracetamol has been near impossible to get in most places.  Supply and demand.

if I were the NHS I’d be worried at the sudden massive increase in the amount of painkillers being bought, unless people are hoarding them

i am in the unfortunate position of needing prescription controlled painkillers, I wish I werent

I know it's not 'an essential item', but I have been trying to buy my usual Granola cereal from Aldi for the last couple of weeks. Was 1kg bag for £1.39, this has been replaced with a 500g bag,  it's  still Harvest Morn, different design on packaging, and it's still £1.39!!!    Beware, don't be taken in.    I have settled for similar product in Tesco,   1kg for £1.60.

58p in Poundstretcher this week up from 26p a fortnight ago and 16p 4 weeks before that.

Still 27p in Lidl this morning so it can't be a supply problem, just profiteering.

I thought as much. I noticed plenty of paracetamol in stock in my local Asda today priced 30p, which is certainly now the cheapest of the Big 4.
