Was it a Chargeback or S75?
    It was an S75.
Have you any plans on what you will do next?

Since my bank has said there’s nothing they can do I plan to just fall in line and accept the part refund and use the goodwill money towards a future break next year. Haven’t booked anything just yet as I’m waiting for more clarity in travel.
  • Hello help needed!!

We have a holiday booked with Sykes on the 17th July for a week, its a big house. There are 12 of us booked, 4 different households, 3 vulnerable people one being 93 years old! We have paid the early deposit and the full payment is due on Friday this week. We want to cancel this holiday we are not going to be able to go due to what is going on, Sykes are saying if we cancel now we have to pay over £600 or the payment will come out on Friday which is over £2000. We phoned them today after an hour on hold and they said they couldn't do anything that holidays as of the 4th July are going to continue as normal (pre Covid 19 ) and they would not even contact the owners to explain the situation but also surly the owners will be fined for allowing the booking to continue? We did take out the travel insurance.

You could raise a complaint with the bank, just because they have rejected it, doesn't mean they are right too.

It will depend what the rules are on the 17th July. If the house.is available then any cancellation will depend on the T&Cs , if  it's non-refundable then you aren't entitled to a refund.

If you take out insurance for the whole party for the holiday,  or is is personal insurance?

I have now received another automated reply from Sykes. Stating that as I cancelled my holiday. I now have 7 days to pay the balance of the deposit, or legal action may be taken against me.
My reply as usual read " Are you still not listening to me"  I have not cancelled the holiday. At the time I was supposed to go I was not allowed to travel and the cottage had to remain empty by Law.
Awaiting their next automated reply. Eventually someone may call me to discuss the issue.

If they think you owe a debt,  I expect them to contact you much quicker than if you were due a refund.

Thank you for replying, I think it was refundable and it was insurance through Sykes for the trip. I think we are going to have to cancel and pay the £600 and then try and claim it back after.

I would also be going down this route 17th July is too far away to know the rules then.
If you don't want to go now £2600 is a big risk to take,  personally I would cancel  then  try and claim it back somehow.
If that does fail, a £600 hit is still far better than a £2600 one.

Why would the owners be fined? As Sykes said they think by then they will be able to open, obviously if they can't then that is different. So if they are allowed to be open it will be your choice not to go.
