I've seen that carwash.
But as they weren't in a "building" I assumed they would have no electric & so couldn't hoover.
I will try them, my car is a bit minging:o
Oh and my car is minging too, it looks like a recycling tip! i've got loads of papers, pictures etc.:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -
If you really do care about the way your car looks the best way is to do it yourself. There are some forums around which discuss car washing alone,

If you use a pay for time jet wash as someone has said earlier.
A local one to me dose 1 min 30 secs for 50p, this is long enough to rinse the car and to spray the hot soap on, then don't put anymore money in, use the brush (for free) to do the sills and wheels, then put another 50p in, and rinse off then a quick wax and maybe another 50p for a spot free Finnish. (edit take a sponge)
That £1.50 for a decent wash enough to get winter salt off and make the car cleaner, used more in the winter when it's too cold for a bucket and polish.
It can take about 10 mins but half of it is free.:j0 -
my local ARC (based at tesco) carwash was doing BOGOF on the top level wash last month0

Aldi's own car shampoo ( when they have it in stock ) fantastic stuff, £3.99 for 5 litres, car gleams after using it.
Washing up liquid is bad news for washing cars, it will cause damage in the long term.0 -
THE Asda £1.20 car wash works for me, on a company car. I hand wash my own0

I don't understand this idea of top level wash, I reckon you get next to nothing (worthwhile) on top of what you get from a basic wash (which I saw last week at Adsa was only £1.25
Now I do understand that some basic washes are quite scrooge like with the soap suds, that's why I use a taxi trick, buy a value bottle 1litre of washing up liquid for 15p, and keep in the car boot. before you enter the car wash squirt some on your bonnet, wings, windows, roof & rear boot & wheel hubs. Then go for your wash.
The other way to do it, is to drive into the wash get out squirt stuff on the car, then walk out and enter your wash code to start the wash while you look on from outside the carwash.
My DH is a cabbie he gets his washed outside & hovered & cleaned inside for about £12 (could be a little more) in London - cheaper in central London than Surrey <where's the rolley eyes smiley>
My top MSE tip for car washing...............
Buy a 4x4, they look better dirty;):money:;):money:
Do I get credit for making a 4x4 the MSE choice:rotfl:
I've had a car (Ford Focus) the past week while mine is being repaired, it looked mucky almost immediatly & I have to hand it back clean like I got it:mad::mad::mad:
Just over a week on the road & needs washing:(:(:mad:0 -
Dont get me started on products and hand polishing - you name it I've used it - Autoglym is good but sightly abrasive, also consider Maguires NXT and I'm curently using Sonus 3 stage with a 7424 Porter cable. Check out http://www.poorboys.co.uk/ for mnore information than you will ever need.
back on topic..... I will agree with using the jetwash, and I always take my own sponge and dont use the brush except on the wheels. I also take a wheel cleaner and apply that first, I have added a car shampoo to my sponge and used that on the car as well - It pays to go to a place that is pey-per-time and allows you to choose the programme / use of the brush and lance. These tend to work out at £1 for 3 minutes - 2 people can do this in 6 minutes - 8 - 12 on on your own roughly.
How are you finding the porter cable? I've been looking at getting one, but worried I'll use it once, find it too hard and never attempt it again. I've heard they're much easier than machine polishing, but how much easier? :rotfl:This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -
I guess everyone missed the spammer.
BTW, liked goldspanners reply in the 2nd post.0 -

Thats a really fantastic way to strip any protecting wax off your car, and to damage the top layers of paint over time.
Bad Bad idea.0
