......cheapest place for a Car wash.........???
where is generally the cheapest place for a car-wash?
tesco used to be cheap at £5 but last time i went (a while ago it had gone up to £6)
most places seem to charge £6+ now for a top-level wash
anyone know how much total or jet (petrol stations) charge?
thanks:T

Six quid sounds expensive, mind you i live in the northwest and pay about half that, dont often go though and although i know what you mean about finding imperfections,i like to do it myself, if i have time. There are two sides to every story.

6 quid! Never realised car washes were so expensive (I've never used one, always hand wash)
Round here one of the petrol stations offers a free car wash if you buy 25l of fuel.
What about paying a person to wash your car? If I was your neighbour I'd be straight round to wash your car for a fiver0 -
I always take mine to a texaco garage (I think thats the one anyway) and use the jet wash, it takes coins so I end up only paying about 2-3 pounds and it comes out cleaner than if I took it through a car wash and its much more fun!! :rotfl:0

Morrisons jet wash is a happy medium- you do it, but little chance of bodywork damage. IIRC 35p a minute and 10 minutes is more than enough.0

If you really do care about the way your car looks the best way is to do it yourself. There are some forums around which discuss car washing alone, allthough most of the people in those tend to use expensive products and spend their time debating which one lasts longest and shines the best etc. And nothing beats a plain old tin of wax and a good selection of cloths and an hour or two. Those wax things that jet washes and car washes spray on I would say are only good for a top-up shine. If you have swirl marks and light scratches you may want to try a polish like AutoGlym Super Resin polish.
Those jet wash things can be handy if you just want to get rid of some mud, insects, or clear out the wheel arches. If you really can't get out a hose or a bucket I would use a jet wash rather than an automated car wash. Although before you start putting that hot foam brush over your car it's probably best to check that no prior user has ended up getting stones stuck in it.0 -

Dont get me started on products and hand polishing - you name it I've used it - Autoglym is good but sightly abrasive, also consider Maguires NXT and I'm curently using Sonus 3 stage with a 7424 Porter cable. Check out http://www.poorboys.co.uk/ for mnore information than you will ever need.
back on topic..... I will agree with using the jetwash, and I always take my own sponge and dont use the brush except on the wheels. I also take a wheel cleaner and apply that first, I have added a car shampoo to my sponge and used that on the car as well - It pays to go to a place that is pey-per-time and allows you to choose the programme / use of the brush and lance. These tend to work out at £1 for 3 minutes - 2 people can do this in 6 minutes - 8 - 12 on on your own roughly.Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!
There are three types of people in the world, those who can add up and those who can't.0 -
There's a fantastic group of Eastern European folks near me who have set up shop in a disused filling station. £4 for a standard jet wash - £1 extra for the hot wax finish. Excellent service that has had the added benefit of tidying up a rather run down site.
Usually wash the car myself (for cheapness and to be kind to the bodywork) but now and then I get it jet washed to remove the stuck on grime.0
