I don't understand this idea of top level wash, I reckon you get next to nothing (worthwhile) on top of what you get from a basic wash (which I saw last week at Adsa was only £1.25

Now I do understand that some basic washes are quite scrooge like with the soap suds, that's why I use a taxi trick, buy a value bottle 1litre of washing up liquid for 15p, and keep in the car boot. before you enter the car wash squirt some on your bonnet, wings, windows, roof & rear boot & wheel hubs. Then go for your wash.

The other way to do it, is to drive into the wash get out squirt stuff on the car, then walk out and enter your wash code to start the wash while you look on from outside the carwash.

Washing up liquid can supposedly be bad for cars. http://www.carcareadvice.co.uk/faq/exterior-paintwork/can-i-use-washing-up-liquid-to-clean-my-car.htm

If you must use something cheap go for the supermarket cheapies like Asda smart price car wash and wax. A little of this can go a long way.

When it's a taxi it doesn't matter, the same with the cars I generally own, if I had a brand new car I would use a proper car - wash 'n wax.

You can buy 5 litre wash n wax bottles, and you could pour some of that stuff into an empty washing up liquid bottle to keep in your car if you preferred to use car shampoo. But the principle is the same, you'll get a cheap good car wash.

I'm sorry, bit if your saying £6.00 is to much then get a bucket and sponge and do it yourself.

Sponge is about 99p, chep bucket the same and a splash of washing up liquid. That's the only outlay

Washing up liquid

Use a proper car wash liquid. It's only about 60p a bottle for supermarket cheapies.

I wonder what all the cars of the people who use washing up liquid look like. My guess is they get dirty quickly and the paint fades. When it's a taxi surely it's more exposed to all the contaminants on the road like insects, muck and grime, and when washing up liquid strips wax and has salt in it doesn't look too good. Certainly don't understand paying £3 to get in the car wash and putting 15p washing up liquid on there. But I suppose if it does work and your paint doesn't fade or crack and your car rust to death, or be more difficult to wash later then it's not a problem. But it's only 40p or so more for 1 litre of car shampoo which goes a long way.

I'm hoping there'll be more anti-washing up liquid posters :D

You choose the cheapest wash Asda £1.25 other places £1.75 - £2, the thing is on the cheap wash , the machine doesn't give out much soapy suds so you add your own.

It does work, and if you want a blow dry, just drive faster afterwards :D ,nope not noticed any rusting more than to be expected. and my Mitsubihi Colt W reg washed in washing up liquid for 4 - 5 years, has no rust on the paintwork.

But use car shampoo if you want, the point was, it is a way of making the cheap car wash program work better on your car.

my local asda has a buy time car wash £1 a go, i managed to wash it for a pound once, but had to be realy quick, usually £2, its best to use a chamois on it straight after to get rid of excess water

It gets car shampoo and a garden hose and if it's really lucky two or three times a year some hard wax to try keep it at it's best, even though it isn't that great anyway :D

The idea to add your own soap is a good one and one I never thought of though :)

Where do you get that done for a tenner AM?

I've had mine done in Crawley (hubby uses the jet wash, I don't bother:o ) & a place on the A25 near Nutfield & they all charge about £13 - £15 & my car is tiny.
It's called Charlies, it's opposite Asda, in the George Hotel carpark.
My car is only a peugeot 106.
They dont wash the interior, they wash outside and polish, hoover inside and polish inside, oh and you get a free smelly hanging thing ;)
