Stop stockpiling

It's the stock piling of fresh fruit/veg products I've not really got my head around. Orders I've seen going into supermarkets this last 7 days have been higher than Christmas week orders.
Now growers/suppliers have had to communicate to supermarkets that in order to actually have enough UK produce to maintain a constant supply throughout they wont be getting what they're ordering and they need to order a little more sensibly. Theres no point digging/cutting everything now knowing that people will be buying and throwing it out within weeks. UK seasons on some products usually end around April/May and with a lot of countries being in the same situation cant imagine there will be a ton of product in the usual import seasons coming from abroad. Nobody planted produce for this situation so shoppers are just going to cause a genuine shortage later on in the year when with a little sensible shopping growers could probably stretch everything further into the usual import gap.1 -

@Forwandert the fruit and veg thing got me too. Are people batch cooking / freezing everything or, as you say, it's going to end up binned when it goes off or gets to the BBE date.
I've been adapting my meal plans, based on what veg I can pick up when I do my weekly fresh shop.
This week I've managed to get a bit of salad, but no root veg.
I was able to pick a little bit of bread type products, but instead of having two small wraps with my lunch, had one. Kept a couple out for the next two lunches and froze the rest of the packet.
Grabbed a packet of potato cakes, as they are not always available at the best of times, just have to hope I can get eggs next week for my breakfast in the week.
Thankfully, many of us can adapt our meals, it's the ones who rely on processed / pre-prepared foods who are going to struggle.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.1 -
I was in tesco today and some items are limited to 2 or 3 and in this woman's trolley she had 3 bottles of lemonade pop, 3 bottles of cherryade and 3 bottles of cola so I wonder if she thought because they are different flavors it doesn't class as being more than 3 items.0

Stockpiling because you are not allowed out makes sense but as food shops will remain open and shopping for food is allowed there is no need to stockpile. He needs to do it now to bring this rise of madness to a halt.0

Well it doesn’t seem that the one hour early for NHS was very well respected.
To all those selfish ***** out there, when we are too tired and hungry to care for your loved ones- you have one person to blame YOURSELF!!!!2 -
It was respected in my local store, ID checked on the way in and all NHS workers given a large bunch of flowers, well done Tesco!!
Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama3 -
Takmon said:I keep thinking there must be a point where everyone who's panic buying must look at the food they have and think "I have enough now" and the shelves will start to fill up but it doesn't seem to have happened yet. I really don't understand the logic behind it either because the supermarkets are never going to close and food supplies are never going to stop no matter what so what are these people doing!.
